Inundation maps for extreme flood events: Case study of Sidi Bel Abbes city, Algeria

Abstract: Hydrodynamic modelling is used to analyse the inundation behaviour of Sidi Bel Abbes city (North-West of Algeria) during extreme flood events. The study reach, 5.4 km in length, is a section of Wadi Mekerra through Sidi Bel Abbes city. Land and bathymetric surveys were used to create a digital terrain model (DTM) of the river channel and the floodplain. By coupling the geometry with hydrologic data, a two dimensional hydrodynamic model was built. The model is based on integrating Saint-Venant shallow waters (d… Show more

“…There is a problem of phosphorus in agriculture, the solution to which is associated with the knowledge of its various forms in the soil and their transformation, the ways of its mobilization, and the conditions for the most effective use of phosphorus fertilizers in our and other countries, has been the topic of several studies [MAHFOUD et al 2020;SMIT et al 2009;TIRADO, ALLSOPP 2012]. Within the literature, there is a lot of data on the forms of various phosphates and their quantitative content in different soils.…”

“…This method allows simulations of flood events, considering different flood scenarios, based on historical or rating curve information. Numerical models used in hydrodynamic simulations can be applied to create hazard maps and to reconstruct the extension of past flood events [11][12][13].…”

“…Floods are natural disasters that afflict almost all regions in the world today. The threat of flooding is a natural disaster that most frequently cause loss of property and lives [1] ,estimates of the size and frequency of floods is important for infrastructure planning and design and in the management of water resources and riparian areas [2] Research on flood frequency has focused on the estimation of extreme flood events, rather than the more frequent small to moderate magnitude flood events which dictate alluvial channel morphology [3,4], Flood inundation models play a central role in both real time flood forecasting and in flood plain mapping [5] ,the HEC RAS is one of this models, Already many authers using this models for modeling flooding in various countries where the results were satisfactory [6,7]. The objective of this study is to forecast the flood water surface profile on a return period of 50 and 100 years.…”
