Jet Electrodeposition of Ni-SiO2Nanocomposite Coatings with Online Friction and Its Performance

Abstract: To improve the surface quality and performance of Ni-SiO 2 nanocomposite coatings, jet electrodeposition of SiO 2 nanoparticles (diameter 20-30 nm) with Watt's nickel solution was used to process on graphite substrate accompanied by ceramic stick rolling and friction (R&F) online. The crystal structure and microstructure of coatings were analyzed by using X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the samples was evaluated by potentiodynamic pol… Show more

“…The surface morphology and corresponding EDS of composite coatings with the highest TiO 2 content of 7.25 wt-% is shown in Figure 3. The surface was quite flat due to more uniform electric field and the impact of jet flow [20,21]. The uniform distribution of Ti element on the surface demonstrates that the TiO 2 particles were dispersed evenly in the composite coatings.…”

“…High particle content and less particle agglomeration are the advantages when jet electrodeposition is used to make metal matrix composites. Jet electrodeposition has attracted more attention in metal matrix composites fabrication [17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…Nano SiO 2 has a spherical microstructure, which can improve the strength and chemical resistance of materials. 32 However, when nano SiO 2 are mixed with modified starch, the mixture of adhesive will form more viscosity and heterogeneous mixture, which influence the surface quality. In a previous study, the surface roughness values of particleboard panels made from Eastern redcedar had the R a values of 6.03 µm and 6.59 µm of 700 kg/m 3 and 800 kg/m 3 density level, respectively.…”

“…The role of NiSO4˙6H2O and NiCl2 . 6H2O in the solution is to provide nickel ions for the deposition process, and the role of C7H5O3NS is to refine the grains [24]. The addition of H3BO4 not only adjusts the pH of the solution, but also enhances the electrolyte polarization layer [25].…”
