Leptin, hs-CRP, IL-18 and urinary protein before and after treatment of children with nephrotic syndrome

Abstract: We aimed to analyze the changes in plasma leptin, serum inflammatory factors and urinary protein in children with nephrotic syndrome before and after treatment and their clinical significance. A total of 28 children treated and diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome between November 2015 and October 2016 were selected as treatment group, while 25 healthy children were selected as control group. There were no statistically significant differences in age, sex, body mass index (BMI), serum albumin and other general da… Show more

“…12 Average age of research subjects for steroid sensitive NS patients it was 8.4 (SD 4.8) years, whereas for steroid-resistant NS it was 10.4 (SD 4.7) years. This is in accordance with the research of Zhou et al 2018, where the mean age of SN patients was 8.9 ± 1.6 years. 13 In this study, the average body weight of steroid-sensitive NS patients was 28.9 (SD 13.1) and steroid-resistant NS 37.2 (SD 16.1), while the height of each group was 123.2 (SD 24.6) and 135.8 (SD 22.7).…”

In the research of Kniazewska et al in the SN patients studied, 1 patient was obese (body mass index (BMI) above the 95th percentile), 3 (10%) overweight (90-95th percentile BMI), and 2 (6.6%) with short stature (height below percentile 5).…”

“…Interleukin-18 (IL-18), a novel immunoregulatory cytokine, is a member of IL-1 cytokine superfamily, which enhances both type-1 and type-2 mediated immune responses (1,2). It plays an important role for maintaining immune system regulation (2,3). Different immunity components such as mononuclear macrophages, B cells, natural killers and other factors are responsible for synthesis and secretion of IL-18, which in turn promotes macrophages and other immunity reactions (3).…”
