“…This significant enhancement in MRI signal occured over a much longer period than was observed in our previous studies, where the enhanced T 1 ‐weighted MRI signal had disappeared at 72 h PI of Mn‐LDH . It is suggested that modification of the nanoparticle surface with the PEG‐containing polymer can significantly prolong the blood circulation time and lead to much slower yet longer accumulation of nanoparticles in the tumor region via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect . These results, thus, indicate that Mn‐LDH@PFPE nanoparticles are promising pH‐activated imaging agents for specific in vivo imaging of breast cancer.…”

“…The optical imaging of an unrelated, integrin-targeting PFC-NIR formulation has previously been used to study tumor vasculature 46 . Fluorine-based MRI has also previously been used to investigate tumors, but a microscopic evaluation of the cellular distribution of the reagent was not performed 47 . The magnetic relaxation of some PFCs is sensitive to the oxygen content of surrounding tissue, and several investigators have studied oxygen content within the tumor in a non-invasive fashion 48 - 51 .…”

“…Among all the MI methods, MRI is the most frequently used method for therapeutics owing to its very high resolution and capability to cover most of the organs. More importantly, many MRI contrast agents can be encapsulated into NPs . Optical imaging can also be utilized as a medical imaging modality in nanotheranostics; however, the application of optical imaging is limited owing to the visible light spectrum scattering in the soft tissues region.…”
