A high gain circularly polarized millimeter-wave x-slot antenna with surface mounted horn is presented. Substrate integrated waveguide technology is adopted to achieve low profile feeding structure to excite the x-shaped slot backed by a circular cavity. As a gain enhancing technique, a surface mounted horn, made from a very thin copper sheet is placed over the x-slot to achieve a realized gain more than 15 dB. The proposed design exhibits an experimental bandwidth of 1.05 GHz. A very good agreement between the experimental and the simulated results is achieved.
