The goal of this study was to see if there was a substantial improvement in students' vocabulary proficiency after they were taught vocabulary using actual material. In this study, the pre-experimental design was used with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The first semester of English instruction at IAI As'adiyah Sengkang in the academic year 2020/2021 served as the study's sample. Simple random sampling was utilized in this study. A total of 15 students were used as samples. Written tests were employed as part of the study instrument. The utilization of real resources significantly improved students' vocabulary mastery, according to the findings of this study. The t-test result of -20,911 with a significance of 0.00 < 0.05 and a degree of freedom (n-1) of 28 showed this. As a result, the null hypothesis (H0) has been rejected, whereas the alternative hypothesis (H1) has been accepted.

This contribution is associated with the research project entitled "Improvement of pedagogical practices in educational institutions in the southern area of Manabí". Reading persists as one of the least popular practices among students of all educational levels in Ecuador, despite its contribution to strengthening communication skills in using a foreign language. This bibliographic review study presents the perspectives of educational practices applied worldwide and analyzes the elements such as motivation and success strategies that contribute to improving reading competence in their students. This work aims to recognize the factors that can influence students' reading comprehension abilities of English as second language (ESL) or as a foreign language (EFL) in various contexts. In pursuit of this objective, the authors reviewed 70 scientific articles available on the Scielo, Web of Science, and Scopus platforms to explain the characteristics of students of English as a second language, the understanding of reading practices, and finally, the review of the influential factors of the process. They concluded that motivation factors, reading strategies, and elements of the student's context affect ESL students' reading comprehension ability.

The modern development of social communications in connection with the mass transition to the online mode of life and education becomes decisive. At the same time this tradition changes communication channels and information transmission due to their pedagogical and educational contexts. Monitoring consists in studying the saturation of these channels with verbal, visual and symbolic systems of signs that manifest the phenomenon of polymodality. One of the active channels of communication on the Internet has become comic as a form of verbal-visual communication. Verbal saturation in comics is considered as a system of worked-out rules, and drawings. System of signs is filled with the purpose and goals by author of the text. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of main directions of English-language comics for the reader's perception of scientific literature through the use of linguistic and extralinguistic features. The analytical and bibliographic method of scientific literature in the context of the applied verbal and paraverbal elements of the text is adopted. Regarding, a questionnaire was used to verify the practical aspects of the perception of the comics test The results of the study made it possible to hierarchically construct the types of verbal and extralingual means used in English-language comics, and to characterize the peculiarities of verbal and extralingual means from the viewpoint of polymodality of their use.
