Optimizing the method to calculate right ventricular ejection fraction from first-pass data acquired with a multicrystal camera

Abstract: Cine-MRI can be used to validate radionuclide algorithms. Of the four radionuclide methods for measuring RVEF that were assessed, the first-pass 2-ROI method and the first-pass RA subtracted single ROI are the most accurate, the first-pass single ROI method underestimates RVEF, and the RVEF values measured from GBPS are less accurate.

“…The gold standard for measurement of RV EF is generally held to be magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [5,6,7], although reproducibility can be a problem even with this technique [8]. In addition, MRI is very expensive and may be technically difficult in some patients (e.g.…”

“…For accurate measurement of the RVEF, the first-pass RNA technique is preferred [28]. This technique shows promise as an accurate method for measurement of the RVEF and has potential clinical applicability in confirming the diagnosis of RV failure in the presence of high right-sided filling pressures and as an objective method to follow the effect of a treatment modality on pulmonary hypertension [29].…”
