Paenibacillus rhizosphaerae sp. nov., isolated from the rhizosphere of Cicer arietinum

Abstract: Two sporulating bacterial strains designated CECAP06T and CECAP16 were isolated from the rhizosphere of the legume Cicer arietinum in Argentina. Almost-complete 16S rRNA gene sequences identified the isolates as a Paenibacillus species. It was most closely related to Paenibacillus cineris LMG 18439 T (99?6 % sequence similarity), Paenibacillus favisporus LMG 20987 T (99?4 % sequence similarity) and Paenibacillus azoreducens DSM 13822 T (97?7 % sequence similarity). The cells of this novel species were motile, … Show more

“…The results of DNA-DNA hybridization showed that these strains constitute a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus rhizosphaerae sp. nov. was proposed (Rivas et al 2005). Correa et al (2009) showed the ability of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BNM122 strain to colonize seeds and roots when applied as a coating on soybean seeds.…”

“…S2 in IJSEM Online. Strain P2-1 T was closely related to Paenibacillus cineris KCTC 3998 T , P. favisporus KCTC 3910 T and P. rhizosphaerae KCTC 13015 T with 96.5, 96.4 and 96.3 % gene sequence similarity, respectively Velázquez et al, 2004;Rivas et al, 2005c). The novel strain was related to P. lentimorbus ATCC 14707 T , P. thiaminolyticus JCM 8360 T and P. naphthalenovorans DSM 14203 T with gene sequence similarity values of 90.4-91.8 % (Shida et al, 1997;Pettersson et al, 1999;Daane et al, 2002).…”

“…Salt tolerance was tested using YPD medium supplemented with 0-5.5 % (w/v) NaCl at 0.5 % intervals and 7-day incubation. Spreading growth of KB0549 T , Paenibacillus cookii LMG 18419 T (Logan et al, 2004), Paenibacillus favisporus GMP01 T (Velázquez et al, 2004), Paenibacillus rhizosphaerae CECAP06 T (Rivas et al, 2005), and P. chibensis JCM 9905 T (Shida et al, 1997) was determined by observing colony shape after 3 days of cultivation at 30 uC on three different types of agar media: YPD, CASO (5 g peptone, 3 g meat extract and 15 g agar per litre), nutrient agar medium (15 g peptone from casein, 5 g peptone from soymeal, 5 g NaCl and 15 g agar per litre). For physiological and biochemical characterizations, including H 2 S production and the Voges-Proskauer test, API 20E and API 50CH systems (bioMérieux) were used according to the manufacturer's instructions.…”
