The purpose of this study was to: (a) to determine the effect of problem-based learning on learning outcomes; (b) to determine the effect of problem-based learning on disaster education abilities; (c) to know the effect of experiential learning on learning outcomes; and (d) to know the effect of experiential learning on disaster education abilities. This study used an experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection used observation sheets, which is questionnaires as an instrument of the implementation of learning models and education, and a tests that were used to know the learning scores. The results obtained was tested by ANOVA using SPSS for windows version 21. The results showed: 1) there is a significant influence of problem-based learning models on learning scores; 2) there is a significant influence of the problem based learning model on the disaster education ability; 3) there is a significant influence of experiential learning model on the learning scores; 4) there is a significant influence of the experiential learning model on disaster education abilities. The experiential learning model has higher influence to learning value than to problem based learning. The experiential learning model has higher priority on the disaster education abilities than on problem-based learning.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis surat pribadi dengan menggunakan media lagu. Media yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah media lagu “Bunda” karya Melly Goeslow dan lagu “Titip Rindu Buat Ayah karya Ebiet G. Ade. Bentuk penelitian merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus,dengan tiap siklus terdiri atas perencanaan tindakan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi dan interpretasi, serta analisis dan refleksi. Sumber data berupa peristiwa pembelajaran, informan, dan dokumen. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara mendalam, tes, dan analisis dokumen. Validitas data yang digunakan adalah triangulasi data dan triangulasi metode. Persentase siswa tuntas menulis surat pribadi pada siklus I adalah 62,95% dan pada siklus II 88,89%. Respon siswa terhadap penggunaan media lagu dalam pembelajaran menulis surat pribadi adalah positif karena dalam wawancara siswa merasa senang, dan percaya diri serta mampu memahami cara menulis surat pribadi.

Abstract-Education and character are two important things related to each other. National curriculum includes the characters that need to be understood and implemented the Indonesian students. Teachers can build the students' character by using method that includes structured character activities. Scientific paper is a product that needs to be improved for the sake of implementing National curriculum. Students' characters can be observed from writing scientific paper. Outdoor study method can set out the students' characters through the steps of learning and scientific paper which becomes the final product. Outdoor activities can be conducted on Geography subjects because geographic objects exist in the world. The aim of this paper is to discuss the effect of outdoor study on the geography scientific paper writing ability to build the students' characters in senior high school. The research uses quasi experimental design with two groups, namely experimental class and control class. The analysis data uses independent sample t-test with SPSS 16.0. The research findings show that there is an effect of outdoor study on the geography scientific paper writing ability to build the students' characters with significant value of 0.00. The effect can be seen in the scientific paper results and activities in the outdoor study step of learning such as: class preparation, area selection, group dynamics, equipment management in the field, outdoor work, return in the classroom, and student final report. Characters can be constructed are: honesty, discipline, responsibility, caring, politenes, environmental awareness, cooperative behaviour, responsiveness, and independence.
