Indonesia has various types of local goat germplasm like a goat Peranakan Etawah (PE), Gembrong, and Kosta. Information of those local goats including the parent reproduction and kids productivity are still limited. Study aims to evaluate maternal reproduction capability and kids productivity of goat PE, Gembrong, and Kosta. Study was conducted in 24 does and 44 kids of PE, Gembrong, and Kosta in Loka Kambing Potong (Goat Research Station), Sumatera Utara. A goat mated with of the study from each the goat breed. Data of reproduction were collected from mating to calving. Data of kids productivity were collected from birth to nine month-old. As reproductive capability data, the highest litter size and type of birth were demonstrated in goat PE. Goat gembrong produced more male, whereas goat Kosta had shorter pregnant duration than other goats. Birth weight of PE was significantly different (p<0,05) to Gembrong and Kosta. Weaning weight was different (p<0,05) between PE and Kosta goat. In addition, daily gain of 6-months, 9-months weight, pre-weaning and postweaning showed no significant differences (P>0.05). Pre-weaning and post-weaning mortality was highest in Kosta.

The Boercang goat is a crossbred between male Boer goat and local female goat. This study was aimed to analyze the production and physical performances of Boercang goats during the weaning up to the age of one year. Thirty nine males and 37 females goats aged 3 - 12 months were used in the study. Body weight, daily weight gain, coat colour pattern, horn, ears, nose shape and birth type were recorded during study. The data obtained were calculated for the means, standard deviation (SD), and coefficient of variation (CV) and the analysis was descriptive. Student t test was performed to compare differences between groups of age and between group of sex. Field observations showed that the qualitative characteristics of Boercang such as body colour, horns, ears, and nose shape were 50 % identical with the characteristics of male Boer. The average body weight of the male Boercang goats was 23.02±1.56 kg whereas the female Boercang goats was 21.86±1.63 kg. Body weight gain was affected by age and birth type. The conclusion is that the genetic superiority of the qualitative characteristics of the Boer goats is still expressed in the offspring although it varies; for the characteristics of horns, colour patterns and ears still contribute more than 50%. The appearance of superior quantitative traits from the male Boer goat during the period of weaning up to one year of age both based on the birth type and offspring sex tends to be higher than the appearance of local goat.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui estimasi nilai korelasi genetik antara berat lahir dan berat sapih pada kambing saburai di Kabupaten Tanggamus. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2018, berlokasi di Sentra pembibitan kambing saburai di Kabupaten Tanggamus. Materi penelitian ini sebanyak data 136 indukan dan data 150 anakan kambing saburai. Metode penelitian yaitu survei menggunakan data recording dan kuesioner. Variabel yang diamati adalah berat lahir dan berat sapih induk, berat lahir dan berat sapih cempe, umur sapih, umur induk saat melahirkan, tipe kelahiran cempe, dan jenis kelamin cempe. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berat lahir dan berat sapih induk masing-masing adalah 3,10±0,47 dan 12,15± 2,29; berat lahir dan berat sapih cempe masing-masing adalah 3,25±0,48 dan 12,60± 2,77. Korelasi genetik berat lahir dan berat sapih di Sentra Pembibitan Kabupaten Tanggamus adalah 0,37. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah seleksi peningkatan bobot lahir akan meningkatkan bobot sapih kambing saburai.Kata kunci: bobot lahir, bobot sapih, kambing saburai, korelasi genetikABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the estimation of genetic correlation values of birth weights and weaning weights in Saburai goats in Tanggamus regency. The study was conducted in July-August 2018, located in the breeding area, Tanggamus Regency. The materials of research were data from 136 doe and 150 kids. The research was conducted by survey method using the recording data and questionnaire. The variables observed were birth weight and weaning weight of doe, birth weight and weaning weight of the kid, weaning age, doe’s age at parturition, birth type of kid, and sex of kid. The results of this study indicate that the average birth weight of doe was 3.10±0.47, the weaning weight of doe was 12.15±2.29, the birth weight of kid was 3.25±0.48, and weaning weight of kid was 12.60±2.77. It can be concluded that the estimation of genetic correlation between birth weight and weaning weight of saburai goat was high with score of 0.37.
