“…reported that magnorol and honokiol from the ether extract of Magnoliae Cortex show an inhibitory action on the central nervous system [5]. Perillae Herba water extract and its main components of essential oil, perillaldehyde, also has inhibitory action on the central nervous system as described in our previous report [6]. These results are consistent with our observations of the ilK effect.…”

“…In our study, PAH was inhaled at a dose which was approximately 1.3–130 times lower than the concentration of PAH containing in the water-extract of Perillae Herba (2 g) in kososan, which is used clinically as a one day dosage [12], because rodents have more sensitive olfaction than humans. The inhalation of PAH reduced the immobility in a dose-dependent manner (Figure 2(a)), and did not affect spontaneous locomotor activity (data not shown), indicating that the inhalation of PAH shows an antidepressant-like property.…”

“…It is stipulated by the 17th Japanese Pharmacopoeia The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, Japan, 2016 that PA must constitute more than 0.08 of the dry matter of 'Soyou'. PA is an odorant, and has neuropharmacological effects Sugaya et al, 1981, vasodilative effects Takagi et al, 2005, antidepressant-like effects Ito et al, 2008, and bactericidal action Oda et al, 1982a1982b . ANT is a red pigment, and an antioxidant.…”
