Phenolic, flavonoid contents, anticholinesterase and antioxidant evaluation of Iris germanica var; florentina

Abstract: This study was designed to investigate antioxidant and anticholinesterase potential of Iris germanica var; florentina. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory potential of plant samples were investigated by Ellman's assay. Antioxidant activity was performed using DPPH, H2O2 and ABTS free radical scavenging assays. Total phenolics and flavonoids contents were expressed in mg GAE/g dry weight and mg RTE/g, respectively. In AChE inhibition assay, Ig.Fl, Ig.Sp and Ig.Cf fractions ex… Show more

“…This extraction with methanol was three times followed by filtration from muslin cloth [21]. The filtrate was concentrated using rotary evaporator (Heidolph Laborota 4000, Schwabach, Germany) under reduced pressure at 40 o C, which resulted in 290 g (6.44%) of dark brown colored crude extract [22]. Ph.Cr (250 g) was processed for fractionation purpose following procedure we reported previously [17].…”

“…[70][71][72] Nonetheless, these secondary metabolites have also been reported to possess antimicrobial, antioxidant and other beneficial effects. [36,[73][74][75][76] Moreover, the florescence analysis of the samples of R. hastatus revealed various colors under different wavelengths. The fluorescence analysis is a significant system of identification of powdered drugs with their particular references.…”

“…Free radicals which are produced during oxidation process are neutralized to non-radical forms by enzymes including CAT and hydroperoxidase. However, when free radicals generation is abnormally high or the immune system is depleted, then administration of free radicals scavengers from outside is necessary (Halliwell, 1994; Ullah et al, 2016). Furthermore, in AD patients and aging brain, mitochondrial dysfuntion lead to excessive production of oxidizing free radicals which lead to oxidative stress with subsequent oxidative damage and pathological abnormalities.…”
