Polymorphism of DLK1 and CLPG gene and their association with phenotypic traits in Chinese cattle

Abstract: DLK1 and CLPG were located in DLK1-GTL2 imprinted cluster. They all affected muscle growth and meat tenderness. The functional importance of DLK1 and CLPG imply that the variation of the genes could affect the growth traits of animal. PCR-SSCP and sequencing were used to analyze the four loci of DLK1 gene and CLPG gene in 1109 individuals, which belong to eight breeds/species of bovidae, including cattle, buffalo and yak. A synonymous mutation (C451T) was detected in exon 5 of DLK1 in Qinchuan cattle, but didn… Show more

“…These findings support previous work suggesting that the IGF2 locus is an important biological regulator of milk production in dairy cattle and add to an accumulating body of research showing that imprinted genes influence many complex performance traits in cattle (Bagnicka et al, 2010;Chen et al, 2011;Flisikowski et al, 2007;Goodall and Schmutz, 2007).…”

“…The MBTPS1 gene is associated with meat quality parameters such as shearing force [46]. The DLK1 genes are involved in fat development and differentiation, affecting muscle growth and meat tenderness [47]. EPS8L2, a family of eps8-related proteins, is a new protein family responsible for functional redundancy that leads to actin remodeling in RTK-activated signaling pathways.…”

“…For c.498T>G SNP, two genotypes (GG and GT) were found in 234 individuals, whereas homozygous TT was not detected in the tested samples. It could possibly be due to the limitations of sample size or that it was eliminated due to a lethal effect (Chen et al, 2011). Moreover, four SNPs in complete linkage were detected in intron 1 of NPY gene.…”
