Pregnane Derivatives from Potentilla evestita

Abstract: A new pregnane derivative, 2,6β,7β-trihydroxy-4-methyl-19-norpregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one, has been isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of Potentilla evestita along with a pregnane derivative, 11α,17α,21-trihydroxypregna-4,16(22)-diene-3,20-dione, that is reported for the first time as a natural product. Their structures were elucidated with the aid of 1 H and 13 C NMR spectra and by COSY, HMQC, HMBC and NOESY experiments.

“…The rhizomes of P. evestita contains rich amount of tannins, i.e. 3.5% hydrolysable tannins and 15 -20% condensed tannins, pregnane derivative, 2,6b,7b-trihydroxy-4-methyl-19-norpregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one, and pregnane derivative, 11a,17a,21-trihydroxypregna-4,16(22)-diene-3,20-dione, has also isolated from P. evestita (Khan, Saeed, et al 2011;Khan, Siddiq, et al 2011;Rauf et al 2013). Keeping in mind the potential ethnopharmacological uses of the plant, the isolated compound from (Figure 1) P. evestita, umbelliferone was subjected to q 2014 Taylor & Francis *Corresponding author.…”

“…The rhizomes of P. evestita contains rich amount of tannins i.e . 3.5% hydrolysable tannins and 15-20% condensed tannins, pregnane derivative, 2,6 beta,7beta-trihydroxy-4-methyl-19-norpregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one, and pregnane derivative, 11alpha,17alpha,21-trihydroxypregna-4,16(22)-diene-3,20-dione, have also isolated and reported from P. evestita [ 3 , 4 ]. The in - vivo antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of umbelliferone isolated from the chloroform fraction of P. evestita is already reported [ 5 ].…”

“…Phytochemically, approximately 43 compounds have been isolated from P. evestita. The rhizomes of P. evestita contains rich amount of tannins that is 3.5% hydrolysable tannins and 15-20% condensed tannins, pregnane derivative, 2,6 beta,7beta-trihydroxy-4-methyl-19-norpregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one, and pregnane derivative, 11alpha,17alpha,21-trihydroxypregna-4,16(22)-diene-3,20-dione, have also been isolated from P. evestita (Khan et al, 2011). In continuation of our research work on medicinal plants (Uddin et al, 2011a;2012b;Rauf et al, 2012a) herein we are reporting the isolation of three compounds using chromatographic *Corresponding author.…”
