“…The influence of prenatal care is seen in premature births, even in the presence of adverse clinical conditions (ARAÚJO and TANAKA, 2007), and is smaller the greater the number of prenatal consultations. (LOPES and MENDES, 2013) The number of prenatal consultations may have a confounding bias in association with a shorter duration of pregnancy (fewer weeks of gestation), due to the possibility of there being fewer records of prenatal consultations simply due to the early termination of pregnancy. Intercurrences during pregnancy can "shorten" the gestation period and, consequently, result in lower birth weight and "cancel" planned prenatal consultations (fewer number of consultations).…”
