Preparation of Pd–Ni Nanoparticles Supported on Activated Carbon for Efficient Removal of Basic Blue 3 from Water

Abstract: Pd–Ni nanoparticles supported on activated carbon (Pd–Ni/AC) were prepared using a phase transfer method. The purpose of synthesizing ternary composites was to enhance the surface area of synthesized Pd–Ni nanoparticles, as they have a low surface area. The resulting composite was characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) for investigating its surface morphology, particle size, percentage of crystallinity and elemental composit… Show more

“…The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to reveal insights into the adsorption phenomena. The Langmuir isotherm model assumes that the molecules are adsorbed in a monolayer configuration on the adsorbent surface where all the adsorption sites possess the same energy, so the adsorption of a species is identical [48][49][50]. In comparison, the Freundlich isotherm model states multilayer, non-ideal adsorption, and the adsorption sites are unevenly distributed, involving a different affinity for adsorbing molecules.…”

“…The photocatalytic/catalytic potential of CuO, SiO 2 particles and CuO-SiO 2 composite toward the removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous media was monitored at different intervals of time by using UV-Visible spectroscopy, which is one of the most commonly available techniques used for such investigations. 61,65 The photodegradation of CV was studied in the absence of catalyst under light and in the presence of a catalyst in the dark as well as under light. In each experiment first the dye solution was stirred in dark for 30 min to confirm the dynamic equilibrium between the dye molecules adsorbed and desorbed on the catalyst surface.…”

“…Generally, nano-sized, visible-light responsive photocatalysts have been considered economical due to their cost-effectiveness in utilizing a major proportion of light spectrum ($45%) compared with UV-light ($3%). [36][37][38][39] The treatment of CV-contaminated water has been reported utilizing different kinds of photocatalysts, including oxides, [40][41][42][43] sulfides, 44 selenides, nanocomposites, 45,46 albeit the choice of effective and environmentally-friendly nanocomposite photocatalyst with enhanced performance is critical.
