A 70-year-old male presented with a slow growing, dome shaped and painless mass of the hard palate. The mass was excised. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a angioleiomyoma (vascular leiomyoma). A leiomyoma is an uncommon benign tumor of smooth muscle differentiation. True leiomyomas of the oral cavity are rare and most oral tumors are derived from the smooth muscle of walls of blood vessels. Therefore, they are called vascular leiomyomas or angioleiomyomas. Clinically, they may resemble a myriad other conditions both benign and malignant. A definitive diagnosis depends upon histopathological examination of the biopsied tissue in correlation with the tumor cell immunohistochemistry. Tumors are excised and recurrence is rare. The histopathological findings and differential diagnosis of a case of a palatal angioleiomyoma are discussed.

Objetivos: Relatar dois casos com história clínica semelhante, confrontando seus aspectos com aqueles encontrados na literatura. Relato dos casos: Dois casos de mulheres na quinta e sexta décadas de vida apresentando nódulo submucoso em ventre lingual. Após exame microscópico que revelou numerosos vasos sangüíneos entremeados a células fusiformes, com núcleos ovalados ou alongados, e exame imuno-histoquímico com positividade para actina de músculo liso nos dois casos, o diagnóstico final foi leiomioma vascular. Conclusão: O estudo do leiomioma vascular bucal é de extrema importância devido à raridade e semelhança desse com outras lesões da cavidade bucal. A análise imuno-histoquímica é importante para o diagnóstico final do leiomioma. Leiomioma

We report a case of what appeared to be a primary leiomyosarcoma of the left pubic bone of a female aged 23 years. Forty-eight cases of the tumour have been recorded in the literature since 1944, only two of which were in the pelvis. The tumour in our patient was treated by curettage and there was no recurrence in the following 3 years. The tumour cells showed only mild cellular atypism and 2 to 3 mitoses per 10 high-power fields. These finding suggest that the tumour might be an extremely rare leiomyoma of bone.
