Real-time detection of hypochlorite in tap water and biological samples by a colorimetric, ratiometric and near-infrared fluorescent turn-on probe

Abstract: In this paper, we report a highly selective and sensitive ratiometric NIR fluorescent probe that can be used for real-time detection of the biologically important hypochlorite with colorimetric and significant NIR fluorescent turn-on signal changes at NIR excitation wavelength. In addition, experiments showed that this probe can be applied to detect hypochlorite in tap water, serum samples, and living cells with low cytotoxicity.

“…To date, as we have just seen, there have been numerous fluorescence small-molecules that have been developedf or the detection of HOCl;m any famous fluorophores sucha s1 ,8naphthalimide, coumarin, BODIPY,c yanine, rhodamine, and fluorescein have been used to detect HOCl. [70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80] These fluorescent molecules are embedded with receptors such as the phenylc halcogenide group, the oxime group, spiro rings, etc. to help tune the reactivity of the fluorophore.…”

“…Feng and co-workers in 2015 reported ar atiometric "turnon" NIR fluorescent and colorimetric probe which is ahybrid of rhodamine and coumarin moieties;t he system wast ested in real-time detection using HOCl in selected tap water andt he biological samples (Scheme 69). [78] The hybridp robe, synthesized from coumarin and aryl ketone is shown in Scheme 43. In the absence of HOCl, the probe emits weakly at 486 nm; whereas, after treatment with HOCl, the intensity at 486 gradually decreased;asimultaneous new stronge mission at 707 nm appeared.…”
