Selected Strength Aspects of Adhesive Lap Joints and Butt Welded Joints of Various Structural Materials

Abstract: The present paper evaluates the effect of joining method on the strength of joint assemblies of selected structural materials: DX51+Z275 galvanised steel, OH18N9 stainless steel and DC01 low carbon steel. The objects of the study are: the lap adhesive joint and the butt welded joint with continuous and spot weld. Welded joints were produced latter by means of one of the two welding methods, MIG or MAG. The choice of the welding method depended on the type substrate material. Welding was conducted at the follow… Show more

“…Further research in the topic is planned to analyse the influence of other parameters on the strength of adhesive joints, including: the method of surface preparation, the use of admixtures of materials that modify the properties of the adhesive, the degradation of joints due to aggressive environmental conditions and variable cyclic fluctuations in the temperature of the working environment of the joint [ 82 , 83 , 84 , 85 ]. To this end, statistical tools will be used to support mathematical modelling, and it is also planned to apply an analytical approach and use finite element numerical analysis software [ 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 , 90 ].…”

“…The final quality of an adhesive joint also depends on its operating conditions, both in terms of the behaviour of the joint, the joint's operating temperature and its range of variation, the operating humidity, and more. These issues belong to different scientific disciplines, thus adhesive bonding can be called an interdisciplinary process, which combines chemistry, physics, and mechanics [3][4][5][6][7][8][9].…”

“…Robots can be employed in a wide range of manufacturing processes. Apart from the typical transport-related work, robots are more and more frequently used for precision work such as welding, painting, or gluing [5,6]. As in the case of overall production processes, robotic processes require careful analysis to ensure efficiency and real benefits [7].…”
