Selective extraction of derivates ofp-hydroxy-benzoic acid from plant material by using a molecularly imprinted polymer

Abstract: Selective SPE of derivates of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) from plant extract of Melissa officinalis is presented using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) made with protocatechuic acid (PA) as template molecule. MIP was prepared with acrylamide as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinking monomer and ACN as porogen. MIP was evaluated towards six phenolic acids: PA, gallic acid, pHBA, vanillic acid (VA), gentisic acid (GeA) and syringic acid (SyrA), and then steps of molecularly impr… Show more

“…It exhibited high selectivity for quercetin and good affinity to its structural analogues. Another molecularly imprinted polymer was evaluated toward six phenolic acids [78]. The polymer was prepared with protocatechuic acid as template, acrylamide as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinking monomer, and ACN as porogen.…”

“…The PA-AM-EGDMA copolymers showed a good imprinting effect for derivates of pHBA from plant material of M. officinalis [20]. Similarly, the same functional monomer and cross-linker was used to prepare PA-MIPs by precipitation polymerization in this paper.…”

“…In a previous work, molecularly imprinted SPE was applied to selectively extract p-hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives from Melissa officinalis, and protocatechuic acid (PA) was used as a template molecule by bulk polymerization [20]. In this study, it was the first time to apply PA-MIPs in TCMs for purification and enrichment.…”

“…However other monomers were successfully employed in the synthesis of MIPs selective to parabens, namely 4-VP [41] and acrylamide [42] (Fig. 2).…”

“…In the case of PCPs near 50% (of the 19 publications analysed in this study) of the MIPs were applied as sorbents for a SPE technique. Environmental waters [51], soils [46], sediments [43], plant extracts [42] and soy [52], comprise the different samples that were successfully treated by MISPE.…”
