Study on the enhancement of Ru(bpy)32+ electrochemiluminescence by nanogold and its application for pentoxyverine detection

Abstract: In this work, CE separation with end-column Ru(bpy)3(2+) ECL detection for the quantitative determination of pentoxyverine was firstly performed. The experimental conditions, such as the applied potential, injection voltage, injection time, and the pH of separation buffer, were discussed in detail. Gold nanoparticles were found to enhance the ECL intensity at an appropriate volume ratio of nanogold with Ru(bpy)3(2+) but without changing their nanoproperties proved by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and … Show more

“…Therefore, the quantity of ${\rm{Ru(bpy)}}_3^{2 + }$ can be greatly enhanced while ${\rm{Ru(bpy)}}_3^{3 + }$ decreases, which causes a dramatic increase in oxidation current and a decrease in the reduction current. According to the precious reports 9, 24, 31, the mechanism can be described as follows: …”

“…reported the use of AuNPs to enhance the ECL detection of pentoxyverine in CE 24. The AuNPs were added into the detection cell, and were thought to be able to increase the photon efficiency and the rate of the ECL reaction, and thereby had a positive effect on ECL intensity 24. Recently, a similar strategy was also used by Wang et al .…”

“…When the pH was higher than these values, the ECL intensity decreased slightly. The possible reason was considered as the reduced availability of Ru ( bpy )32+ at high pH due to the competitive reaction of OH − which consumed considerable Ru ( bpy )33+ . Considering a good separation result and a high ECL intensity, the optimal pH was 8.5.…”

“…This system, which used the ECL cell previously developed [41], involves a great progress in CE-ECL in the last few years and has been applied to the determination of alkaloids in plants [47], dioxopromethazine in urine and plasma [48], proline and hydroxyproline in urine [49], pentoxyverine [50] or roxithromycin [51], both methods using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to enhance the ECL intensity, bupivacaine in plasma [52], norfloxacine in urine without sample treatment [53], bisoprolol in tablets and urine [54], etc. (Table 1).…”
