Synthese und Struktur von K2Au3, einer neuen Phase im System Kalium—Gold / Synthesis and Structure of K2Au3, a New Phase in the System Potassium —Gold

Abstract: K2Au3 is obtained from the elements in a sealed Ta am poule as air-sensitive needles with a golden lustre. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Immm with the lattice constants a = 487.5(2), b = 545.4(2), c - 1000.4(4) pm; Z = 2. The structure is com posed of planar layers of Au atoms at z = 0 and 0.5 and intercalated K atoms. The layers consist of triangles and hexagons with Au -Au distances between 268.8 and 280.2 pm. The K atoms have ten Au neighbours with distances from 334 to 389 pm.

“…This leads to the formation of layers {CoB 2 } separated by W atoms. A different situation is observed in K 2 Au 3 and Ca 2 GaCu 2 . , The Au2 and Cu atoms form a continuous chain along [010] with alternating short and long distances, d 1 (Au2–Au2) = 2.68 Å, and the longest distance is d 2 (Au2–Au2) = 2.76 Å, respectively. In Ca 2 GaCu 2 , these two distances are 2.70 and 2.78 Å, respectively.…”

“…Proceeding through the series from LiAu to CsAu, a metal−insulator transition occurs between KAu and RbAu . The insulating CsAu and RbAu crystallize in the cubic CsCl structure, whereas the structures of the metallic NaAu and KAu are more complicated and are still not fully elucidated. Solid CsAu possesses an indirect band gap of 2.6 eV, which can only be modeled when relativistic effects are included in band-structure calculations. , NaAu has been synthesized by precipitation from liquid ammonia solutions and observed in rapidly quenched alloys. It has a metallic appearance and retains some gold color with the electrical conductivity lying in the metallic range …”
