Synthesis and Evolution of PbS Nanocrystals through a Surfactant-Assisted Solvothermal Route

Abstract: We present a surfactant-assisted solvothermal approach for the controllable synthesis of a PbS nanocrystal at low temperature (85 degrees C). Nanotubes (400 nm in length with an outer diameter of 30 nm), bundle-like long nanorods (about 5-15 mum long and an average diameter of 100 nm), nanowires (5-20 mum in length and with a diameter of 20-50 nm), short nanorods (100-300 nm in length and an axial ratio of 5-10), nanoparticles (25 nm in width with an aspect ratio of 2), and nanocubes (a short axis length of 10… Show more

“…The absorption edge of PbS exhibits a large blue shift [32] when one shrinks the crystallite size to the nanometer size regime. Recently, various methods have been developed to synthesize PbS submicro-/nano-crystals, including solvothermal method [33], chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method [34], ultrasonic method [35], and electrodeposited route [36]. Microwave-assisted synthesis [37] is a very attractive process for producing a variety of materials.…”

“…39,[70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78] The modifier plays a different role in each type of synthesis, and their effects are not completely understood. The use of a modifier in the chemical synthesis of nanomaterials has been employed to obtain new shapes with different sizes, which promotes the formation of materials with different chemical behaviour.…”

“…A variety of methods have been utilized to synthesize PbX (X = S, Se, Te) nanowires, including templating in mesoporous silica channels, [11] oriented attachment of nanoparticles, [12] seeded solution synthesis, [13] colloidal synthesis, [14] and solvothermal, [15] hydrothermal, [16] and soft template routes. [17] A facile chemical vapor transport (CVT) synthesis of thin, highaspect ratio PbS nanowire arrays has also been reported.…”
