The effect of ethanol extract of myrmecodia pendens to tgf-β1 expression and osteoblast cells after tooth extraction (the experimental research on cavia cobaya)

Abstract: Objective: Myrmecodia pendens is often used as a traditional medicine to treat various diseases. A previous study showed that ethanol extract of sarang semut plant (hypnophytum furmicarum jack) 4.65 mg was effective in fastening establishment of socket granulation tissue after tooth extraction; likewise, the myrmecodia pendens at 3% also fastens the healing process of soft-tissue wound after tooth extraction. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of ethanol extract of 10% myrmecodia pendens on the expr… Show more

“…This decrease in collagen thickness occurs because collagen fibers begin to be replaced with bone matrix. 14 The results in Table 3 are in line with previous studies, which said that there was a rapid increase in the level of collagen thickness until the 21 st day, and the thickness would continue to decrease until the 90 th day. 14,29 The value in the control group was not too high because this group did not get any medication to support the healing process.…”

“…Flavonoid can manage cell function by stimulating TGF-β production, whereas TGF-β induces proliferation and migration of osteoblast. 19 The increase of osteoblastic proliferation and activation may increase the amount of osteoblast, which further increase the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG). 4 An increase of OPG is very influential to the osteoclast activation, since OPG is the decoy receptor for Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B Ligand (RANKL), by inhibiting the interaction between RANKL and Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B (RANK) in precursor osteoclast cell membrane, thus inhibit the osteoclastogenesis.…”
