Transformation of the Organic Food Market in Poland Using Concentration and Dispersion

Abstract: Purpose: This paper aims to isolate transformations that have been taking place on the Polish organic food market through the lens of cluster development with the intention to indicate the dynamics of organic food clusterstheir concentration and dispersion. Design/Methodology/Approach: The employed methodology is centred around location quotient as a measure of concentration which allows to pinpoint clusters. The narrative in the paper follows the development of structures as the Polish organic food market und… Show more

“…The linkages established between them allow for an accelerated diffusion of know-how and skills [47]. These structures are organized around core industries located within specific geographic boundaries [48]. They are also closely related to two other concepts-cluster initiatives and cluster organizations.…”

“…This relates to the fact that competitiveness is also shaped by clusters. Poland is characterized by uneven distribution of organic activity measured by location quotient based on data on organic farmland, the number of organic producers and the number of organic processors (Kuberska and Grzybowska-Brzezińska, 2020). This means that regional clusters that have developed in Poland should be perceived as potential areas where positive externalities can arise (Kuberska and Doyle, 2019).…”

“…Decyk and Chrobocińska (2007) underline that growth trends in highly developed countries are the evidence that sustainable development can only be assured by building competitive advantage based on knowledge and innovation. This process can be stimulated, for example, by supporting the formation of clusters (Kuberska and Grzybowska-Brzezińska, 2020;Lagos and Curtis, 2008).…”
