Von dem in Fig. I abgebildeten GefaiO, das aus drei durch zwei Glasschliffe a und b miteinander verbundenen Rundkolbchen I , z und 3 besteht, deren mittleres einen Hahn c tragt, wurde I mit 8 ccrn alkohol. Kali (1.5 g in 15 ccm 96-proz. Alkohol) und z mit ca. 40 ccm einer I-proz. alkohol. Benzoin-Losung in 96-proz. Alkohol beschickt. Dann wurde durch c 5 Min. evakuiert, c verschlossen und die Losung aus z durch Drehen von z in a nach I iibergefiihrt. Es zeigte sich keine Berfarbung der Losung, dagegen trat nach Zutritt von Luft durch c in wenigen Sekunden Violettfarbung ein. 2. Zu einer auf die gleiche Weise bereiteten, farblosen, alkalischen, alkohol. Benzoin-Losung wurde aus 3 eine Losung von je ca. 0.02 g Chinon, Nitro-benzol oder B e n d in 5 ccm Alkohol zugetropft. Es trat eine violette Farbung auf, die beim Benzil weitaus am intensivsten war.
