This study aimed to determine the hand antiseptic products effectivity against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The sample used were hand antiseptic products purchased from several minimarkets, markets, and obtained from several institutions in West Sulawesi by using purposive sampling technique. Samples were evaluated using the well diffusion method with three replications. Since the study data did not meet the ANOVA test requirements, the Kruskal-Wallis analysis test was used to analyse the data, then was continued with the Mann Whitney test. The results showed the sig. value of 0.00 < 0.05 which means, there was a significant difference between hand antiseptics in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results showed that only 2 out of 10 hand antiseptic products with codes N8 and N10 were effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This can be seen from the formation of a clear zone around the hand antiseptic.

Latar Belakang: Karies merupakan suatu penyakit yang ada di area mulut pada bagian gigi yang diakibatkan oleh bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Salah satu tanaman simplisia yang dapat mencegah perkembangbiakan bakteri tersebut adalah batang serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) karena mengandung flavonoid yang dapat mencegah perkembangbiakan bakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan formula sediaan obat kumur ekstrak batang serai wangi yang dapat mencegah perkembang biakan bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Metode: Pengujian stabilitas sediaan obat kumur dengan konsenstrasi 30%, 33% dan 36% dilakukan pada suhu ruang, suhu rendah, suhu tinggi dilakukan selama 28 hari dan metode cycling test selama 12 siklus, pengujian ini meliputi uji antibakteri dengan menggunakan metode difusi cakram, organoleptik, pH dan viskositas. Hasil: Hasil pengujian uji bakteri diawal stabilitas didapatkan zona hambat sebesar 12,70 mm; 14,10 mm; 14,20 mm, diakhir stabilitas didapatkan zona hambat sebesar suhu ruang (8,60 mm; 8,80 mm; 8,73 mm), suhu rendah (7,70 mm; 7,90 mm; 8,32 mm), suhu tinggi (7,87 mm; 7,90 mm; 7,36 mm) dan cycling test (6,97 mm; 8,07 mm; 8,57 mm). Hasil pengujian stabilitas pH memenuhi persyaratan mutu yaitu 5,00 sampai 5,55 (syarat pH 5-7). Hasil stabilitas uji viskositas didapatkan nilai yaitu 1,04-3,21 Cps. Kesimpulan: Sediaan obat kumur yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang paling besar adalah konsentrasi 36% dengan zona hambatnya yaitu 14.20 mm dikategorikan kuat. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are a group of bacteria that are naturally present in the digestive tract of vertebrates, including fish such as Channa sp. Lactic acid bacteria are considered the most suitable microbes for use as probiotics. Probiotics can produce antimicrobial metabolites so that can improve the microbial balance in the digestive tract. It is believed that Channa sp. harbors LAB in its digestive tract, which may have probiotic potential and produce antimicrobial metabolites that can inhibit pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify LAB from the intestines of Channa sp. The research involved several steps, including sample preparation, LAB isolation, characterization, and purification of bacterial isolates, biochemical tests, temperature resistance tests, antimicrobial tests, haemolysis tests, lactic acid production tests, and cholesterol-lowering activity tests. Eight LAB isolates with potential probiotic characteristics were isolated and identified as the genus Lactobacillus, which are gram-positive bacteria that produce lactic acid during culture
