O ozônio terapêutico é uma mistura de oxigênio (O2) e ozônio (O3) que pode ser produzida em geradores de ozônio e possui várias modalidades de administração, como tratamento minimamente invasivo na redução da dor muscular e no tratamento de pacientes com disfunção temporomandibular (DTM). O objetivo do estudo foi estudar a eficiência da ozonioterapia no tratamento das disfunções temporomandibulares. Tratou-se de uma revisão da literatura com abordagem narrativa, utilizando-se as bases de dados: Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Literatura Internacional em Ciências da Saúde (MEDLINE), US National Library of Medicine (PubMed) e Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), utilizando-se os descritores “síndrome da disfunção da articulação temporomandibular”, “ozônio” e “ozonioterapia”. Foram incluídos estudos clínicos, descritivos, quantitativos, qualitativos e relatos de casos completos que abordaram a ozonioterapia no tratamento das DTMs nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol no período de 2012 a 2023, excluindo-se dissertações, teses, editoriais, estudos incompletos e os que não apresentaram relação com a temática pesquisada. Os estudos selecionados apresentaram resultados promissores e satisfatórios na terapêutica com ozônio, quer seja utilizado de forma isolada ou combinada com a terapia convencional. Embora exista a necessidade de mais pesquisas na literatura, a ozonioterapia demostra muitos benefícios, reduzindo sintomas de dor e fadiga associados a DTM e melhorando a função mandibular, sendo um método terapêutico minimamente invasivo e eficaz para tratamento de pacientes com DTM.

According to the American Dental Association Survey of Dental Services Rendered (published in 2007), 15 million root canal treatment procedures are performed annually. Endodontic therapy relies mainly on biomechanical preparation, chemical irrigation and intracanal medicaments which play an important role in eliminating bacteria in the root canal. Furthermore, adequate obturation is essential to confine any residual bacteria within the root canal and deprive them of nutrients. However, numerous studies have shown that complete elimination of bacteria is not achieved due to the complex anatomy of the root canal system. There are several conventional antibiotic materials available in the market for endodontic use. However, the majority of these antibiotics and antiseptics provide short-term antibacterial effects, and they impose a risk of developing antibacterial resistance. The root canal is a dynamic environment, and antibacterial and antibiofilm materials with long-term effects and nonspecific mechanisms of action are highly desirable in such environments. In addition, the application of acidic solutions to the root canal wall can alter the dentin structure, resulting in a weaker and more brittle dentin. Root canal sealers with bioactive properties come in direct contact with the dentin wall and can play a positive role in bacterial elimination and strengthening of the root structure. The new generation of nanostructured, bioactive, antibacterial and remineralizing additives into polymeric resin-based root canal sealers are discussed in this review. The effects of these novel bioactive additives on the physical and sealing properties, as well as their biocompatibility, are all important factors that are presented in this article.

This study was aimed to explore the application value of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging technology based on iterative noise reduction (INR) algorithm in the evaluation of the efficacy of root canal therapy (RCT) for dental pulp disease. Eighty eight dental pulp patients who underwent RCT were taken as the research subjects, and INR algorithm-based CBCT and digital periapical film (DPF) were adopted for examination. Basic information of patients, image performance, and filling quality was recorded. It was found that the INR algorithm-based CBCT images achieved favorable noise reduction effects both within and between slices. Filling length of root canal was evaluated by CBCT and DPF, and differences between them were considerable ( P < 0.05 ). Root canal closeness was evaluated by CBCT and DPF, and substantial differences between them were shown ( P < 0.05 ). Moreover, differences on root canal filling quality examined by CBCT and DPF were also remarkable ( P < 0.05 ). Applying CBCT imaging technology based on INR algorithm to the analysis of the curative effect of dental pulp patients can better retain the image information and can also more accurately evaluate the curative effect of different RCTs.
