Wound healing activity in rabbits and antimicrobial activity of Hibiscus hirtus ethanolic extract

Abstract: Generally, Plants have immense potential in the wounds management and treatment. In Chinese herbology, Hibiscus plant is a potent herb and have a good medicinal values but not scientifically approached. The present study aims to investigate the wound healing and antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extract of Hibiscus hirtus Linn.(HH). Wound healing activity was carried out by excision, incision and burn wound models. Antimicrobial activity was determined by cup plate method. Healing rate was assessed from the r… Show more

“…Herbal medicines can solve the adverse effects, costs, and antimicrobial resistance issues. The antimicrobial activity possessed by the phytoconstituents in herbal extracts may aid in wound healing [ 11 ]. The effectiveness of antimicrobials in wound healing is well-established and reinforces their role in accelerating wound healing with either systemic or topical use [ 10 12 ].…”

“…By maintaining mitochondrial integrity, B. monnieri extract pretreatment modulated the SNP-induced up-regulation of Bax, cytochrome c and caspase 3 expression and a down-regulation of Bcl2 expression, indicating a cytoprotective role for B. monnieri extract against SNP-induced damage 21 . B. monnieri methanolic extract and its isolated constituent bacoside A showed significant woundhealing activity 20 These findings suggest that B. monnieri could be useful in treating human diseases in which free radical production is a major factor.…”

“…Later, plant extracts of A. polystachyus leaves have also demonstrated with wound healing activities and justified the use of these extracts for S. aureus infected wounds ( Demilew et al, 2018 ). And, Hibiscus hirtus ethanolic extracts also had proven excellent antimicrobial activity towards wound healing activity ( Ravishankar et al, 2018 ).…”
