Show more

“…Best known are the indium(I) halides, InCl, InBr, and InI, which, despite their sparing solubility in solvents that do not promote rapid disproportionation, afford the principal entry point to indium(I) chemistry. Structural authentication of simple (as opposed to mixed valence) In + derivatives has otherwise extended to the trifluoromethanesulfonate, tetrafluoroborate, and various ternary halogenometallate compounds, as listed in Table . In + cations are also found in some ternary or other multicomponent solids, including InMo 4 O 6 , In 6 La 10 O 6 S 17 , InGaE 2 (E = Se or Te), and Pt 2 In 14 Ga 3 O 8 F 15 .…”

“…5a). The charge transfer within the In 2 Sn 5 Cl 12 phase could well be mediated by diffusion of In 3ϩ via the same pathways as In ϩ (for a more detailed description of the structure see [10]). The question is, however, how the charge transfer is brought about.…”

“…In 2 Sn 5 Cl 12 , more correctly denoted as In 2Ϫ2x ᮀ x Sn 5ϩx Cl 12 (with 0 Յ x Յ 0.15), has a Th 7 S 12 type structure with three different cation sites, two of them being occupied in a random manner by In ϩ and Sn 2ϩ , the third one hosting (1Ϫx)In ϩ and x vacancies [10,11]. Due to this disorder the compound shows ionic conduction and this may be expected for the one mentioned before as well.…”

“…Their central axis is filled with a coaxial string of disordered Bi atoms that, statistically, occupy only every fifth possible site. Other examples include the compounds Th 7 S 12 ,23 K 2 Sn 5 Cl 12 24 and several apatite25 and hollandite type structures 26. With Bi(Bi 9 )[NbCl 6 ] 3 the electron density along the c ‐axis is sufficient for only two additional Bi + ions per unit cell.…”
