Irradiation of the three isomeric chlorobenzylphophonic acids in aqueous buffer led to a pH-dependent photochemistry. Under acidic conditions (pH = 2.5), photocleavage of the Ar-Cl bond occurred and a phenyl cation chemistry resulted. Under basic conditions (pH = 11), a photoinduced release of the chloride anion followed by the detachment of the metaphosphate anion gave α,n-didehydrotoluene diradicals (α,n-DHTs), potential DNA cleaving intermediates. At a physiological pH (pH = 7.2), both a cationic and a diradical reactivity took place depending on the phosphonic acid used. It is noteworthy that the complexation exerted by a monosaccharide (glucose or methylglucopyranoside) present in solution induced an exclusive formation of α,n-DHTs. The mechanistic scenario of the different photoreactivities occurring when changing the pH of the solution and the role of the various intermediates (phenyl cations, diradicals, etc.) in the process was studied by computational analysis.

wurde rnit 2n HCl unter Eiskuhlung aufgearbeitet. Gewonnen wurden 29 g (81 %) Toluolsulfonat. Nach dem Umkristallisieren aus Petrolather (30-50") betrug der Schmp. 41 -43". Auch bei langerern Aufbewahren bei Raumternperatur trat keine Zersetzung ein. Merhanolyse:In 600 ccm absol. Methanol wurden 15 g Norrricyclanol-p-roluolsulfonar gelost, 10 g Calciumcarbonat zugegeben, und 8 Tage wurde bei 40" im Thermostaten geriihrt. Dann wurde rnit 21 Wasser versetzt und rnit Petrolather (30-50') extrahiert. Nach Entfernen des Petrolathers wurde der Riickstand gaschromatographisch analysiert. Entstanden waren 95 % Norrricyclanolmerhylarher sowie 5 % einer Verbindung, bei der es sich wahrscheinlich urn Dehydronorbornylrnethylather handelt. Nortricyclanolmerhylather. -14 g (0.13 Mol) Norrricyclanol(V) wurden rnit Diazomethan 26) umgesetzt. Nach langerem Kochen iiber Natrium wurden 11 g (70%) Methylither vom Sdp.11 40-42" erhalten. Der k h e r war frei von Verunreinigungen, wie das Gaschrornatogramrn zeigte. C~H 1 2 0 (124.1) Ber. C 77.38 H 9.74 0 12.88 P-Halogenierte Vinylketone und Vinylcarbonsaureester reagieren als vinyloge Saurechloride leicht mitTriathylphosphit zu ungesattigten P-Acyl-vinylphosphonsaureestern. Einfacher konnen diese Verbindungen aus Hydroxyrnethylenketonen oder -estern und Triathylphosphit in Gegenwart von Natrium erhalten werden. Diathylphosphit ergibt rnit P-Dicarbonylverbindungen vorwiegend Additionsprodukte. Fur die Synthese heterocyclischer Phosphonsauren und ihrer Derivate sind die zur Darstellung aliphatischer und carbocyclischer Phosphonsauren bekannten Methoden

Bei der Umsetzung trivalenter P‐Ester mit Chlormethan‐phosphon‐säurediäthylester laufen ARBUZOV‐Reaktion und Alkylierung des P‐Esters etwa in gleichem Maße ab. Die Ausbeute an ARBUZOV‐Produkt 3 ist mäßig, seine Reingewinnung schwierig. Bei der analogen Umsetzung mit Chlormethan‐phosphonsäure‐diphenylester ist die ARBUZOV‐Reaktion eindeutig die Hauptreaktion, die in guten Ausbeuten Methylen‐bis‐P(O)‐Verbindungen 3 mit ungleich substituierten P‐Atomen ergibt. Die Einführung eines Phenylrestes in die Chlormethyl‐Gruppe begünstigt stark die Halogenübertragung auf das trivalente P‐Atom als Konkurrenzreaktion zur ARBUZOV‐bzw. besonders zur MICHAELIS‐BECKER‐Reaktion. Ein weiterer Syntheseweg für Methylen‐bis‐P(O)‐Verbindungen besteht in der „Acylierung”︁ methylenaktiver P(O)‐Verbindungen durch trivalente P‐Chloride mit nachfolgender Oxydation. In speziellen Fällen kann dieser Weg der ARBUZOV‐Reaktion ausbeutemäßig überlegen sein.
