This study was aimed at eliciting facts of peaceful conditions experienced by students in the environment of Pesantren-based schools, positively and negatively, and revealing the students’ mentality in the face of the school rules. The study was done in Madrasah Aliyah (Mualimin) Pesantren Persatuan Islam (PPI) 76 Tarogong, Garut. The study used the narrative method based on the data collected by questionnaires, interviews, observation, and literature study using interactive analyses. Findings show that the synergy of school rules, curriculum contents, teachers, facilities and infrastructures, and other internal elements of the pesantren-based school actualized a unified peaceful life atmosphere which is significant for students, individually or communally. The spiritual and religious foundation of the education has a solid structure in building pillars of peacefulness within the students. Internalization of awareness towards human roles and duties and life guidelines taught by Islamic teaching scaffolds the formation of the strong harmony between students’ attitudes and school rules, preventing students from discipline mentality that is weak and superficialMENTALITAS DAMAI SISWA DAN PERATURAN SEKOLAH BERBASIS PESANTRENPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali fakta-fakta kondisi damai yang dialami para siswa dalam lingkungan sekolah berbasis pesantren, baik positif maupun negatif dan mengungkapkan mentalitas mereka dihadapkan dengan peraturan sekolah. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode naratif berdasarkan data-data yang dikumpulkan dengan teknik kuesioner, wawancara, dan studi literatur yang menggunakan analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sinergitas peraturan sekolah, muatan kurikulum, para pendidik, sarana dan prasarana, serta elemen internal lain dari sekolah berbasis pesantren tersebut membangun satu keutuhan kondisi atmosfer kehidupan sarat damai yang cukup signifikan bagi para siswa, baik individual maupun komunal. Fondasi spiritual dan keagamaan dalam pendidikan memiliki struktur yang kokoh dalam menyusun pilar kedamaian dalam diri siswa. Internalisasi kesadaran fungsi dan tugas manusia serta pedoman berkehidupan yang diajarkan agama (Islam) sangat menopang terbentuknya harmoni sikap siswa terhadap peraturan sekolah yang kokoh, yaitu terhindar dari mental disiplin yang rapuh dan ragawi semata

Abstract:The aim of this study is to identify the characteristics of peaceful personality of adolescent Santri (Islamic students) and their peaceful environment. The subjects of the study are 57 respondents taken from two classes (both male and female classes) of the 11 th grade in Madrasah Aliyah (Mualimin) Pesantren Persis 19 Bentar Garut, academic year 2015-2016. Quantitative research was used where the data was analyzed descriptive and correlational statistics. The result of the study showed that average achievement of peaceful personality is considered high in the aspects of intrapersonal and interpersonal peaceful personality. The number of Santri's perceptions on the condition of Pesantren's (Islamic school) peaceful environment is also considered high. The factor of the environmental condition in Pesantren and home, according to the result of study, significantly influences the peaceful personality of adolescent Santri.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to uncover and gain some factual data about locus of control (LOC) ability to overcome depression in late adolescence. This study was conducted through survey methods on new under-graduate students aged 18 to 21 years old from English Education program in Mathla'ul Anwar University of Banten at first semester of academic year 2015-2016. The result of study showed that majority of the students has internal LOC. The sudents who have external LOC tend to get more depressed than those who pose internal LOC. The numbers of women who get depressed are more than men. The finding also showed positive influence of reading book in gaining capacity of LOC. Depression can be avoided and prevented by spiritual and mental strengthening, such as being closer to God, spending quality time with parents, siblings and friends, doing some new hobbies and activities, getting involved in fun daily activities, and trying to identify sense of fear of being rejected or guilty feelings.

If a lecturer applies a less precise and boring method, the teaching and learning process will not go well. Thus, it is necessary to improve the teaching of English for students by developing more appropriate learning model focusing on learners' needs. It is in line with the application of the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) approach in which learners and their needs The main purpose of learning with this approach is to help learners to master English according to their respective knowledge and needs. The method used in this study is research and development methods or better known as Research and Development (R & D). Based on the results of preliminary observations in ESP Geography learning, it has not yet reached conformity. The percentage of student responses reached 57.4% with an inappropriate category because the learning process is still general. The learning model resulted from the development has been improved and adapted to the learning environment and emphasizes the Reading Guide learning model. Thus, the results of the second stage, most students (85%) give a positive response to the learning process of reading. For this reason, it can be concluded that the description of the ESP Geography learning model results is good enough even if with improvements.
