This study aims to determine the relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and late adolescent autonomy in Makassar City. This study uses quantitative methods with a correlational research design. The Trait Meta-Mood Scale-30 (TMMS-30) and adolescent autonomy scale were given to the research sample selected by purposive sampling method, totaling 453 respondents of adolescent aged 18-21 years; data college use online survey. The object of study is located in Makassar City and identifying themselves Bugis ethnicity. The demonstration and data analysis results using the Bivariate Pearson correlation test showed a positive (unidirectional) relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and late adolescent autonomy. However, the relationship between these variables was moderate (R-calculated = 0.417; with Sig. level < 0.01). The demonstration of the correlation of these variables means that the higher the level of perceived emotional intelligence possessed by adolescents is in line with the level of autonomy of adolescents. However, our study also underlines that the ability of perceived emotional intelligence in predicting the autonomy factor of adolescents is in the moderate category. It is assumed that the control of the perceived emotional intelligence variable is not strong enough to justify its role in the autonomy of late adolescents in this study.
The current COVID-19 pandemic requires individuals to keep their distance and maintain their health by doing activities from home, to stay connected to each other, teenagers use various kinds of social media, one of which is tik tok social media. There has been an increase in social media users, especially tik tok, in early 2020 until now. The use of tik tok social media access is carried out excessively for 4-8 hours a day. Excessive use of social media has an impact on stress. For teenagers, this can affect concentration, irritability, and insomnia. Stress that comes from the environment, such as using social media tik tok as a forum for communicating, is considered relevant in creating symptoms of stress manifestations. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the intensity of using tik tok social media access and stress levels in teenagers at Makassar City during the pandemic. This research was quantitative research with a correlational research design. The instruments used in this study were the intensity scale and the PSS-10 (Perceived Stress Scale-10 items). The data analysis used was the Bivariate Pearson Correlation Test. This study indicates a significant positive relationship between the intensity of the use of tik tok access and the stress level of teenagers as user. The coefficient values obtained indicate that the higher the intensity of using tik tok social media, the higher the stress level for active tik tok users.
Excessive use of gadgets can have physiological and psychological impacts on children. Physiologically, it can cause obesity due to lack of movement and radiation exposure. Meanwhile, psychologically, it can cause speech delay and ADHD symptoms. Children also become aggressive and throw a tantrum when their parents take their gadgets. Gadgets should be used for learning purposes and under parental supervision because devices can impact children's development, especially those aged 3-8 years who need parental attention and love in their growth and development. This study aimed to obtain data related to empathic communication skills to reduce children's gadget use frequency. This research method uses a quantitative approach with an Untreated Control Group Design with Dependent Pretest and Posttest Sample. The results concluded that there was a significant difference between the pretest-posttest of the experimental group. Therefore, the application of empathic communication skills on parents effectively reduces the frequency of children's gadget use.
College students, who are working on their final assignments, need the grit to complete their studies well. However, there are still students who have low grit levels, so that not just a few students experience delays in completing their studies, even until they are dropped out of college. Mindfulness, which has the characteristics of being aware of itself, both in place and mentally, to the circumstances that occur at that moment, can help students refocus on their goals to complete their studies well. This study investigated the relationship between mindfulness and grit on final year students in Makassar. This study used a quantitative method with a correlational design. The subjects of this study were 183 last year students who are working on their final assignments at the top three public universities in Makassar City, namely Hasanuddin University, Makassar State University, and Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar. Data were analyzed using bivariate Person correlation, and the result indicated that mindfulness is significantly correlated with grit. The relationship between mindfulness and grit in this study was adequate with a correlation coefficient r(183)=0.352, p<0.05, indicating that the higher the mindfulness, the higher the grit, and vice versa. This showed that students who were undergoing the educational process in higher education should have attention and awareness in undergoing the educational process so that these students could achieve their long-term goals.
The current pandemic requires everyone to keep their distance and avoid crowds. Schools and universities with large student capacities can create masses, so those institutions must be closed during this pandemic. The most effective solution to keep education running during this pandemic is to conduct a distance learning process (online). Online learning has an impact on students, especially adolescents. For some teenagers, this can be felt like an immense pressure or burden and has an effect on their psychological and academic life. In this situation, academic resilience is crucial for high school youth to help overcome academic hurdles and various negative feelings that arise during the online learning process. Peer social support from the individual's social environment is considered relevant to improving students' academics in online learning. This study aims to determine the contribution of peer social support to the academic resilience of high school adolescents in online learning in Makassar. This research is quantitative research with a correlational research design. The study sample consisted of 253 high school students. The sampling technique used is accidental sampling. Research data is collected with Peer Social Support Scale and Academic Resilience Scale. The Data were analyzed by using the simple linear regression analysis. The result shows that there is a significant contribution of peer social support to academic resilience among adolescents in online learning in Makassar. The contribution of peer social support to academic resilience is 20% (R 2 = 0,20; Sig = 0,000), while the rest of 80% is affected by others variables not examined in this study.
