Naturally, the human body has tolerance to free radical attacks. However, the natural antioxidant ability will decrease when exposure to free radicals from within and outside the body occurs intensively. Antioxidants play potential preventive role to protect the body from damage associated with oxidative stress by free radicals. One of the potential marine resources used as an antioxidant is macroalgae. Turbinaria is widely distributed in tropical waters of Indonesia, including West Kalimantan. This genus produces secondary metabolites with several biological activities. This genus abundantly grows in Kabung Island. However, it has not been used by the local community, even tends to be considered as a weed that disturbs others marine biota. This study aimed to evaluate the potential antioxidant activity of tropical brown macroalgae Turbinaria ethanol extract from Kabung Island, West Kalimantan. antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenger method with UV-vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that the ethanolic extract had a high of potential antioxidant activity which IC50 was 87.31 mg/L and it was classified into strong antioxidant potential.
Ornate spiny lobster (Panulirus ornatus) in Sebatik Island is a commercial fisheries commodity that has the highest price if we compare it with another lobster caught by the fisherman in Sebatik Island Waters. That causes the effort to catch this lobster to increase continuously. The availability of biological aspects data of ornate spiny lobster is needed as a basis for sustainable lobster resource management in Sebatik Island. This research aims to analyze the biological performance of ornate spiny lobster in Sebatik Waters, coverage from study carapace length-frequency distribution and carapace length-weight correlation of ornate spiny lobster. This research is expected to provide benefits as basic information in lobster management. Information related to the biological condition of lobsters can be used as a consideration in strategies for the utilization and management of lobster resources. Measurement of carapace length, weight, and sex of ornate spiny lobster was carried out from April to August 2016 at lobster landing base in Sebatik Island, North Borneo, Indonesia. The results showed that the sex ratio shows an unstable ratio. The distribution catch size of ornate spiny lobsters ranged from 64.5–114.5 mmCL. The growth pattern of female and male ornate spiny lobsters was negative allometric with r and R2 values of both female and male >0.95. Carapace length at first ornate spiny lobster catch was 71.28 mmCL.
Meningkatnya kebutuhan pangan dan perumahan telah menjadi pemicu pembukaan lahan gambut, karena membakar lahan merupakan salah satu usaha paling ekonomis dalam pembukaan lahan tersebut. Saat musim kemarau, budaya membuka lahan ini sangat beresiko terhadap terjadinya kebakaran lahan gambut yang luas serta sulit dipadamkan. Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah untuk mengedukasi dan mensosialisasikan usaha-usaha pencegahan dini kebakaran lahan serta tindakan-tindakan untuk mengurangi resiko atau bahaya yang disebabkan oleh kabut asap dari kebakaran lahan tersebut kepada kelompok masyarakat Desa Kapur Kubu Raya. Kegiatan ini dilakukan secara offline dengan tetap menggunakan protokol kesehatan untuk pencegahan Covid 19. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh peserta sebanyak 20 orang merupakan perwakilan warga masyarakat, dengan menggunakan metode ceramah yang dilanjutkan dengan simulasi dan demonstrasi penanganan kebakaran. Dalam kegiatan itu juga dibagikan masker kesehatan dan handsanitizer kepada seluruh peserta yang hadir. Monitoring dan evaluasi kegiatan dilaksanakan sepanjang kegiatan melalui pengamatan aktivitas peserta dalam simulasi dan demonstrasi, sedangkan tingkat pemahaman dan kemampuan masyarakat dalam menangani kebakaran menunjukkan kemajuan, yang dilihat pada hasil kuisioner yang diberikan pada awal dan akhir kegiatan. Socialization and Education on Early Prevention of the Risks of Peatland Fires in the Dry Season to the Villagers of Kapur The increasing need for food and housing has become a trigger for clearing peatlands, because burning land is one of the most economical ways to clear these lands. During the dry season, this culture of clearing land is very risky for large peatland fires that are difficult to extinguish. The purpose of this Community Service activity (PKM) is to educate and socialize early efforts to prevent land fires and actions to reduce the risk or danger caused by haze from land fires to the Kapur Kubu Raya Village community group. This activity was carried out offline while still using the health protocol for the prevention of Covid 19. This activity was attended by 20 participants who were representatives of community members, using the lecture method followed by simulations and demonstrations of handling fires. In this activity health masks and hand sanitizer were also distributed to all participants who attended. Monitoring and evaluation of activities is carried out throughout the activity through observing the activities of participants in simulations and demonstrations, while the level of understanding and ability of the community in dealing with fires shows progress, as seen in the results of the questionnaires given at the beginning and end of the activity.
Udang air tawar Macrobranchium lanchesteri merupakan salah satu spesies udang yang ditemukan di Sungai Ulu Ngarak, Kabupaten Landak, Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan panjang-berat dan faktor kondisi udang M. lanchesteri di perairan Sungai Ulu Ngarak. Penelitian dilakukan dari bulan September-November 2021 pada tiga stasiun di Sungai Ulu Ngarak menggunakan metode survei. Hasil penelitian didapatkan 161 individu udang yang terdiri dari 61 individu udang jantan dan 100 individu udang betina. Panjang dan berat setiap sampel diukur dan diperoleh data rata-rata panjang M. lanchesteri (♂) adalah 45,62±5,21 mm dengan rata-rata berat 562,30±188,72 mg. sedangkan rata-rata panjang M. lanchesteri (♀) yang terukur adalah 51,31±4,75 mm dengan rata-rata berat individu adalah 845,60±245,28 mg. Secara keseluruhan rata-rata panjang dan berat M. lanchesteri yang terukur adalah 49,16±5,64 mm dan 738,26±263,80 mg. Hasil analisis regresi panjang-berat menunjukkan nilai slope (b) untuk M. lanchesteri (♂) dan M. lanchesteri (♀) masing-masing adalah 2,3 dan 1,7, sementara nilai b untuk keseluruhan invidu adalah 2,4. Nilai b yang didapatkan kurang dari 3 yang berarti pola pertumbuhan M. lanchesteri baik jantan, betina dan keselurahannya bersifat allometrik negatif. Selanjutnya, hasil perhitungan faktor kondisi (K) menunjukkan nilai K pada M. lanchesteri baik jantan, betina dan keseluruhan adalah 1 yang berarti udang berada dalam kondisi ideal rata-rata populasi
Parit Sembin, Parit Derabak, dan Parit Cabang Kiri digunakan untuk irigasi pertanian dan aktivitas domestik. Saluran air juga merupakan media hidup bagi beberapa jenis ikan. Keberadaan jenis ikan di Parit Sembin, Parit Derabak, dan Parit Cabang Kiri belum pernah dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis ikan dan struktur komunitas ikan di ketiga paerit tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan November-Desember 2019. Jenis ikan yang ditemukan adalah Rasbora sp, Trichopsis sp, Barbodes sp, trichogaster leeri, Osteacillus vittatus, Demogenys sp, Kryptoterus sp, Anabas testudineus, Trichogaster pectoral, Channa striata sebanyak 1.617 individu. Nilai Indeks Keanekaragaman jenis ikan di Parit Sembin, Derabak, dan Cabang Kiri tergolong rendah. Nilai Indeks Keseragaman di Parit Sembin dan Derabak tergolong sedang dan Nilai Indeks Keseragaman di Parit Cabang Kiri tergolong rendah. Nilai Indeks Dominansi Parit Sembin dan Derabak tergolong rendah dan Nilai Indeks Dominansi Parit Cabang Kiri tergolong tinggi.
