This 34-year clinical follow-up study shows a 60% incidence of junctional and circumjunctional reconnections after ligation of the true saphenofemoral junction and its related tributaries. Color-coded duplex sonography is a necessary concomitant to clinical examination, detecting more recurrences and defining the pathologic anatomy to direct clinically indicated additional treatments.

Prolonged compression therapy after proximal deep vein thrombosis significantly reduces symptoms and may prevent post-thrombotic skin changes. Whether these findings translate to the prevention of advanced disease states with ulcerations remains unclear.

normal values for VDrest and VDmax as well as reflux time during a standardised Valsalva manouevre were assessed in the proximal lower limb veins. The influences of BMI, sex and family history were investigated. The described standardised Valsalva manoeuvre led to highly reproducible results and can be recommended for further research projects or as a routine procedure for the assessment of venous reflux.
