This study discusses about the usage of swear words by the characters in the movie Whiplash. The aim of this study is to classify the types of swear words and to analyze the motives which cause the characters use the swear words by using Andersson's theory. In this study, descriptive method is employed to analyze all the swear words which found in the movie. To analyze the data, the researcher watches the movie for several times. Second, find for theory that supports this research from the books and internet. Third, search and download the script from the internet. Fourth, Identifying all the swear words and last, grouping all the data, classifying them according to types and motives by using Andersson's theory. The finding of this study show that Auxiliary swear word is the dominant type and Linguistics motives is the dominant motives that influencing the characters to using swear words.
Melalui survey CCSU tentang pemeringkatan literasi dapat disimpulkan bahwa motivasi membaca dan menulis masyarakat Indonesia masih berada di level yang sangat rendah. Penyediaan rumah baca dapat menjadi upaya untuk menaikkan tingkat literasi masyarakat. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah memberikan sesi konseling literasi secara personal sehingga mampu melacak tingkat literasi anak di Sematang Borang sekaligus memberikan akses buku-buku di Rumah Baca Cinta Literasi. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan pemberian motivasi pengembangan diawali dengan penyebaran kuisioner tentang tingkat literasi, motivasi membaca, kebutuhan perpustakaan kepada peserta kegiatan pengabdian. Hasil kuisioner menunjukkan anak-anak lebih senang membaca buku fiksi namun intensitas waktu yang disediakan sangat rendah. Motivasi membaca anak pun sangat memprihatinkan. Selain itu anak merasa bahwa perpustakaan merupakan tempat yang lebih nyaman untuk membaca karena dapat membuat perhatian mereka terfokus. Kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan memberikan motivasi tentang pentingnya literasi keluarga seperti membiasakan anak untuk mengisi waktu luangnya dengan membaca. Tim memberikan motivasi dan deskripsi bagaimana menumbuhkan minat baca pada anak dan membuat kegiatan membaca menjadi sebuah rutinitas yang menyenangkan. Respon yang diberikan sangat positif, dengan bersemangatnya mereka membaca buku dan para orang tua pun antusias menanyakan bagaimana cara membacakan buku yang tepat untuk anak mereka sehingga membaca dapat menjadi kegiatan alternatif untuk mengisi waktu luang.
This study aims to evaluate the teaching of literary appreciation in improving the ability to analyze the intrinsic elements of a literary work. The object of this research is the 3rd semester students of the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and Language Sciences at Universitas Bina Darma. This study uses the CAR method (class action research) where this method has 3 cycles. In each cycle, researchers and teachers will evaluate the results of teaching in each cycle to be improved in the next cycle. In this study, the intrinsic elements that will be analyzed by students are the theme, setting, characterizations, plot, point of view, message and style of language. By using the methods and teaching materials that have been prepared in the third cycle, researchers and teachers have been able to significantly improve the ability to analyze the intrinsic elements of a literary work.
This study aims to analyze women oppression and struggle in the novel Moxie, this novel tells East Rockport Highschool because sexism and the patriarchy system act as triggers for sexual violence and sexism in schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the typesof oppressions that occur in novel Moxie and to determine women's struggle to the oppression. Using Marion Young's iris theory to find out various kinds of oppressions that occur in novel Moxie and women's resistance using 2 theories of feminism, namely radical feminism by Alison M. Jaggar is used to analyze how the patriarchy system triggers sexual coercion and multicultural feminism. This theory is used to analyze the patriarchy system that triggers sexual coercion that happens because of race and black skin. The research methodology in this research is qualitative descriptive, where relevant data is collected from the text or words found in the novel Moxie. This research resulted in womens oppression such as sexualharrassment, intimidation, and rape as a form of sexual coercion contained in novel moxie. This research also shows how women struggle against oppression that occurs becauseof the patriarchy system and sexism in schools.
Keterampilan menulis kreatif merupakan salah satu jenis keterampilan berbahasa yang dituntut untuk dikuasai oleh siswa. Sayangnya, unsur penting menulis kreatif seperti berpikir kritis, kepekaan emosi, bakat, dan daya imajinatif siswa masih cukup memprihatinkan sehingga perlu dipacu agar memuluskan proses penulisan. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membuka wawasan peserta tentang manfaat menulis kreatif melalui penyampaian informasi, an memotivasi peserta supaya mereka memanfaatkan karya tulisnya. Kegiatan ini berbentuk gelar wicara daring melalui aplikasi zoom meeting pada tanggal 22 Desember 2021 di Universitas Bina Darma dengan tema menulis kreatif. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 108 peserta yang terdiri dari pelajar, mahasiswa dan masyarakat umum di Indonesia. Peserta gelar wicara tidak hanya berasal dari Provinsi Sumatera Selatan saja, namun juga dari Jayapura, Sulawesi Selatan, Jambi, Jawa Barat, Padang, dan Riau. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa peserta mendapatkan ilmu baru khususnya di bidang menulis kreatif, meningkatnya antusiasme peserta yang menunjukkan bahwa para peserta tercerahkan dan dapat menyerap penjelasan dengan sangat baik, menumbuhkan minat dan motivasi siswa, mahasiswa, dan masyarakat umum terhadap pentingnya Literasi di era industri 5.0 ini. Peserta juga diarahkan agar dapat mandiri dan memperoleh income dari tulisan-tulisan kreatif yang tidak hanya mereka tulis, namun juga mereka coba publikasikan di berbagai media.
