The aim of this study was to analyze the psychological well-being of adult victims of child military recruitment in Colombia who were demobilized and are in a reintegration process. This group was compared with, first, a sample of victims from the Colombian armed conflict and, second, a group of people who were not victims, following Ryff's (1989a) theory. A sequential exploratory mixed design was used. The three groups (each n ϭ 35) were given the Multifactor Scale of Psychological Well-being (Ryff & Singer, 1996) questionnaire and a sociodemographic survey; additionally, interviews were conducted to obtain qualitative data. Content analysis was used to analyze the results. The results show that psychological well-being was not affected, despite these past experiences and the difficulties of starting a new life. Adults who had suffered illegal forced recruitment in Colombia showed no difference in their psychological well-being compared with a control sample. However, they differed from a sample of displaced victims of armed conflict in all the dimensions of well-being, except positive relations with others. The qualitative results showed an emotional dimension that involves the acceptance of lived experiences, which is decisive in the transition to civilian life. Finally, elements such as having a life project, economic and emotional stability, identity as a demobilized person, support networks, and self-efficacy were identified as vital for the process of reintegration from the perspective of positive psychology. Public Significance StatementThis study suggests that reintegration process could have a positive impact on psychological well-being of adult victims of child recruitment, however, stands out the importance of adding an emotional component and social support to the process. In the other side, stands out the need to provide accompaniment and assistance on mental health to victims of other kinds of events, as forced displacement, to produce a positive impact on their psychological well-being.
Desde la tradición de analizar constructos psicológicos a partir del lenguaje, esta investigación de tipo instrumental tiene el objetivo de validar un diccionario de emociones intergrupales, cuyo proceso se fundamentó en el diseño, conformación y validación de listados de palabras asociadas a 38 emociones intergrupales, útiles para identificar emociones en corpus lingüísticos, analizados mediante el software Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC), cuya función principal es identificar categorías lingüísticas y psicológicas en textos escritos. Nueve jueces, divididos en tres grupos, calificaron las palabras de acuerdo con los parámetros de pertinencia y relevancia de cada palabra, en relación con cada emoción. Enseguida, las puntuaciones se complementaron con una metodología de bloques aleatorios incompletos, a fin de estimar la calificación de las palabras restantes. Se encontró consistencia aceptable entre jueces, así como ajuste de sus puntuaciones en el modelo de Rasch, lo que permitió aceptar los resultados. A partir de las calificaciones, se depuró el 9 % de las palabras raíz, asociadas a 38 emociones (18 negativas, 17 positivas y 3 neutrales), complementadas con sus respectivas desinencias.
La metodología Eye tracking se utiliza para registrar el comportamiento visual mediante el seguimiento ocular a fin de rastrear: el tamaño y el diámetro de la pupila, el movimiento de los ojos y las fijaciones ante la presencia de un estímulo visual (Van Assendelft, 2017). En términos generales, se emplea una luz infrarroja que ilumina el ojo para captar la luz que pasa por la pupila, luego se refleja de vuelta por la córnea para finalmente proyectarse en un dispositivo (Holmqvist et al., 2017; Miller, 2015; Nilsson & Nivre, 2010). El Eye tracker es el instrumento que permite realizar este registro. Esta metodología se ha utilizado en el estudio de la lectura con el fin de registrar la dirección y detención de los movimientos oculares y determinar así qué área del texto está siendo enfocada durante la lectura (área de interés); por tanto, se constituye en una forma de validez ecológica del proceso cognitivo atencional que subyace a la conducta lectora (Bax & Chan, 2019; Parodi y Julio, 2016).
This work presents the findings of different disciplines, methodologies and fields of action of social scientists, in which an intra and extra-disciplinary dialogue is established on coexistence and prosociality. For this reason, the compilation includes complementary references in methods, experiments, correlations, studies of social networks, etc.; concepts, verbiage, executive functions, environmental conditions, cultural aspects; and units of analysis, for example, individual, culture, groups, texts, etc. The chapters present research results carried out in specialized settings both at university and in socially situated contexts. This book is in line with the scientific agenda and the national current challenges such as the educational impacts of the conflict as regards the post-peace agreement with the FARC-EP; the group dynamics of the groups of victims; the conflict associated with urban life, the physical violence against women; the fulfillment of education goals for sustainable development and local governance, among others. Each chapter presents specific recommendations on the findings for scientists and professionals with social interests, as well as open theoretical discussions and future studies. This wealth of scientific and professional voices highlights the central role of research centers, in terms of the type and quality of research and professional performance for the construction of peace culture in Colombia.
