Mandarin has been used as one of the subjects in Indonesia's schools including kindergarten/PAUD. However, many obstacles faced by the school. The lack of training and teaching staff of Mandarin for early childhood education moved the hearts of the USU Community Service Team to conduct Early Childhood Mandarin Learning training for pre- school educators in one of the Kindergarten schools in Medan, namely RA Ar -Rahmah. The method of this activity is intensive training with a blend of theory and practice as well as discussion and performance of the training results. Teaching Mandarin to educators is carried out with the principle of "Teaching Mandarin to young children" while still considering and respecting the position of participants as instructors who have different backgrounds and experiences. The training follows the principles of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language) in the form of applicative and simple material through flashcards, folding paper, singing simple songs, how to introduce yourself, etc. The results of the teaching practice carried out were very satisfying and as expected.
Abstract-Empowering local culture to sustain local wisdom has become a crucial issue since the publication of President Decree No. 5 the year 2017, emphasizing on the significance of enhancing culture in all aspects, and included education. This paper aims to investigate Onang-Aonang, an Angkola Mandailing oral tradition viewed from culture, local wisdom and education perspectives. This research was the combination of library and field research. The research applied qualitative descriptive method supported by documentation, interview and focus group discussion (FGD). The text of Onang-onang uttered by the old during Manortor ( a traditional dance performed at wedding ceremony) was selected as the main data and the attributes used (colored flags, musical instruments, and clothes) were treated as the additional data. The main data next was translated into Bahasa Indonesia (Larson, 1998) and then was analyzed in order to find out the local wisdom values (Sibarani, 2012) and the character education concepts (Muchlas and Hariyanto, 2011) by correlating them with the additional data. The research found Onang-onang represented three main perspectives; the culture itself (custom and kinship system), local wisdom values (obedience, equality, respect, being humble, togetherness and carefulness) and education concepts (preserving tradition and the family role).
The translation is a representation of the effect of developing technology on language. Translated website or website localization with the easiness of accessibility is considered as the most efficient space for transferring the information nowadays. It certainly involves the appropriate translation strategies in order to provide reliable information required. This research aims to identify the translation strategy involved under foreignization and domestication reference in the official website localization of Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia, to find out the most dominant translation strategy used, and to analyze the reasons to what extent foreignization and domestication applied, by referring the classifications proposed by Venuti (2008). The source of data was taken from five (5) popular news along 2018 which were broken down into 191 data analyzed, consisting of 5 headlines in the form of phrases and sentences, contents totally written in 161 sentences, and 25 sub-contents in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. The research found that the translator used all eight (8) translation strategies under domestication and foreignization reference including literal translation, transliteration, borrowing, transference, transposition, omission, addition, and adaptation, simultaneously or separately. Literal translation becomes the most dominant translation strategy used and it can indicate that the website localization is translated into source text-oriented.
