The suitable teaching materials will make it easier for students to learn in the classroom. To present suitable teaching materials, a needs analysis is needed. This study aimed to determine the types and characteristics of teaching materials needed in learning biology laboratory management. The survey method was carried out to students who were randomly selected. The instrument is arranged in the form of a questionnaire by paying attention to each characteristic indicator of various teaching materials. The validity of the instrument used a combination of expert judgment. The questionnaire is distributed via google form to students who have taken laboratory management courses with a filling period of 2 weeks obtained 123 respondents. The data were analyzed descriptively of quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that the percentage of students who needed teaching materials for biology laboratory management lectures was 98%; the characteristics of teaching materials wanted by students included: containing learning objectives, using simple language, sequenced materials according to lecture sessions, containing summaries, and providing feedback. Teaching materials based on existing characteristics can be in the form of modules that are adapted to the Semester Learning Plan.
Siswa SMP merupakan siswa dengan rentang usia peralihan dari anak-anak menuju dewasa. Pada masa peralihan tersebut siswa banyak mengalami perkembangan fisik, emosi, kognitif, sosial, maupun perilaku. Tidak sedikit kasus dan permasalahan siswa SMP yang menunjukkan penurunan perilaku dan moral siswa. Sekolah sebagai lembaga pendidikan memiliki andil besar dalam pembentukan karakter siswa, salah satunya dapat melalui pembelajaran IPA. Pada pembelajaran IPA siswa dilatih untuk dapat bersikap ilmiah dan menguasai literasi sains. Literasi sains penting untuk dikuasai siswa terkait dengan cara siswa untuk dapat memahami lingkungannya serta permasalahan lain yang dihadapi masyarakat modern. Karakter siswa dapat dibentuk melalui literasi sains termasuk literasi biologi. Literasi sains yang dapat dikuasai siswa salah satunya dapat ditunjukkan dalam bentuk sikap ilmiah. Sikap ilmiah tercermin pada sikap jujur dan obyektif dalam mengumpulkan fakta dan menyajikan hasil analisis fenomena-fenomena alam . Oleh karena itu karakter siswa yang dapat dibentuk melalui literasi sains antara lain sifat jujur, objektif, bertanggung jawab, tekun, terbuka, dan toleran.
Catharanthus roseus L. contain vinca alkaloid compounds which have anti-mitotic effect like colchicine. The application of Catharanthus roseus L. extract and colchicine in many plants was usually done by soaking the plant seeds. The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Catharanthus roseus L. and colchicine on seed germination of Capsicum annuum. 20 Seeds of Capsicum annuum were soaked for 24 h in ethanolic leaf extract of Catharanthus roseus L. (0,05%, 0,1% dan 0,5%), colchicine (0,05%, 0,1% dan 0,5%) and water as control. Seed germination percentage was observed and plant height was measured after 30 days. The 0,5% leaf extract and 0,5% colchicine caused the lowest germination percentage. The 0,5% leaf extract caused the lowest average plant height. Based on ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test, soaked in 0,5% ethanol leaf extract treatment was significantly different with other treatments (signification 95%)
Praktikum merupakan salah satu aspek yang penting dalam pembelajaran biologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen penilaian psikomotorik praktikum biokimia untuk mahasiswa pendidikan biologi. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian dan pengembangan yang menggunakan model 4D (define, design, develop, disseminate), namun pada penelitian ini hanya dilakukan sampai tahap develop. Instrumen penilaian psikomotorik yang dikembangkan terdiri dari 80 butir pernyataan yang mencakup 4 level psikomotorik yaitu perception, set, guided response dan mechanism. Pengujian validitas isi dilakukan oleh ahli serta dilakukan analisis faktor eksploratori (EFA) menggunakan SPSS 20. Uji kelayakan produk dilakukan oleh ahli materi dan ahli evaluasi serta dilakukan uji keterbacaan oleh asisten praktikum biokimia. Uji coba produk dilakukan pada kelompok kecil yaitu satu golongan praktikum dan uji coba kelompok besar dilakukan pada tiga golongan praktikum. Hasil keterbacaan asisten praktikum terhadap instrumen yang dikembangkan sebesar 93,85% masuk katagori sangat baik. Hasil penilaian kelayakan produk dari segi kebahasaan, konstruksi, materi, obyektivitas dan kebermanfaatan oleh ahli materi sebesar 91,67 % masuk kategori sangat baik dan penilaian produk dari ahli evaluasi sebesar 81,67% masuk katagori sangat baik. Hasil analisis EFA menunjukkan nilai KMO 0,857 (>0,5). Hasil uji penilaian psikomotorik mahasiswa mendapatkan nilai rata-rata 62, masuk kategori baik.
Biochemistry practice is a basic practicum that must be mastered by biology education students. Skills in biochemistry practicums are the basis used in practicum physiology, genetics, microbiology, and other materials in biology. This study aims to analyze psychomotor skills achieved by students in biochemical practicums and examine the relationship between cognitive learning outcomes and psychomotor learning outcomes of biology education students in biochemical practicums, especially in the experimental material for making solutions and measuring pH. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a sample of 40 biology education students. Learning outcomes data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the correlation between psychomotor and cognitive learning outcomes was analyzed using Pearson Correlation analysis at α = 0.01. The results showed that psychomotor skills that were mastered by students in biochemistry practicum (making solutions and pH measurements) included levels 1-4, with an achievement percentage of 89.19% at level perception; 97.30% at the level set; 51.62% at the guided response level and 72.97% at the mechanism level, with psychomotor learning outcomes averaging 58 (sufficient category). The cognitive value of students in the experimental for making solutions and pH measurements was 63.32 (good category). There is a positive correlation between psychomotor and cognitive learning outcomes of students in biochemistry practicum (r = 0.67) with a strong correlation category.
