This study aims to determine the extent to which film media and semantic mapping learning strategies can improve student English vocabulary. This study uses a qualitative approach with individual action research methods which begins with surveys, observations, interviews and tests in the class. The research was carried out on the first semester students majoring in informatics using qualitative research methods. The results of the study, obtained by the results of film media and semantic mapping strategies, had a positive and significant effect on the improvement of students' English vocabulary. <p>This research aims to find out the dominant factor causing the errors of narrative writing by the Ninth Grade Students of Darul Hikmah II Junior High School. In this study writer limited the student’s syntactical error only in phrase error. The approach applied in this study is qualitative. The data were collected via observation and giving narrative writing test. The writer used the descriptive analysis technique (percentage) with the percentage from the frequency of information and divided with number of cases were constructed in the form of field-notes. This study involved 20 students of Darul Hikmah II Junior High School Bekasi as samples. The data shows that the total number of mistakes made in syntactical is 382 error, The greatest number of students’ errors was done in noun phrase with the percentage 42, 4%. verb phrase erroes by 139 errors or 36,4%, the third is errors in Adverbial phrase by 42 errors or 11 %, the forth is errors in Adjective Phrase by 29 errors or 7,6% and the last errors in Pprepositional Phrase with 6 errors or 30%.</p>
This study aims to determine the effect of interest in learning on the ability to read English Vocational High School students in Depok. The method used was a survey method with a total sample of 40 students taken by random sampling technique from three private vocational schools in Depok. Learning interest data collection uses a questionnaire in the form of a rating scale, while the ability to read English students is presented in the form of a written test with multiple choice questions. Both test instruments are first validated. Data analysis uses two-way analysis of variance (ANAVA) by first testing the normality and homogeneity tests. The results of the study there is a significant influence of interest in learning on the ability to read English students proven by the value of ρ value = 0.024 <0.05. In conclusion, student interest in learning has a significant effect on English reading ability. keywords; English, reading ability, interest in learning
<p>Kosakata memainkan peran penting dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Mahasiswa membutuhkan banyak kosakata untuk menyampaikan dan mengekspresikan ide mereka atau untuk memahami teks bacaan. Para siswa yang memiliki penguasaan kosakata yang rendah akan menemukan kesulitan untuk memahami bahasa Inggris baik lisan maupun tulisan. Teknik yang menarik dan yang dapat memotivasi diperlukan dalam mengajar kosa kata untuk merangsang mahasiswa agar menjadi lebih aktif. Semantic mapping adalah strategi pembelajaran visual untuk perluasan kosakata dan pengetahuan dengan menyajikan kategori kata-kata yang terkait satu sama lain. Stategi ini dapat membantu siswa menemukan hubungan antara kata-kata yang telah mereka ketahui, dan merekapun dapat belajar kata-kata baru juga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah strategi semantic mapping dapat membantu mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas, dilakukan dalam dua siklus yang mencakup tindakan prosedur penelitian seperti perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Hasilnya secara eksplisit menunjukkan bahwa strategi semantic mapping mampu meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata mahasiswa karena hasilnya menunjukkan nilai rata-rata mahasiswa meningkat dari 60 menjadi 73 pada siklus pertama dan 78 pada siklus kedua.</p>
