This research was aimed to get empirical data and analyze the effects of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards student’s speaking skill at private vocational schools in East Jakarta. This research used data analysis technique, those were descriptive statistic, requirement analysis, normality test, linearity test, and test of hypothesis (analysis of inferential). The research was held at State Senior High Schools in East Jakarta. Data collection was done by giving a test for reading habit, vocabulary mastery and listening skill to tenth-grade students at SMA 105 Ciracas and SMA 98 Cijantung. Due to the result, it can be inferred that there is an effect of reading habit towards student’s speaking skill.
The purpose of this study is to figure out the dominant factor causing the errors of vowels pronounced by second-semester students of Informatics which is basically nonnative speakers of English. The approach applied in this study is qualitative. The data were collected via observation and recording which were constructed in the form of field-notes then analyzed and measured in accordance to English phonetic transcription in “English Pronouncing Dictionary” written by Jones (1997). This study involved 40 students of Informatics English subject at Informatics Program of Indraprasta PGRI University where English is only supporting subject. The data shows that the respondents were really lack of English pronouncing skill, especially vowels as 42 of 58 words containing vowels are pronounced incorrectly. As the result of study, we can conclude that the dominant error made by students is Interlingual errors (58,6% or 838 of 1.430 errors made by students), the errors occurred due to the interference of students? native language.
<p>The aim of this research is to analyze empirically English writing skill of Senior High School students. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The population of this research is the second grade students from SMA Yaspen Tugu Ibu in Depok. The sample was taken through simple random sampling of which 25 students as samples of this research. For collecting the data, the instruments used in this research were writing test and interview. The writing test was conducted to obtain the writing skill indicators, while the interview was carried out to elicit information of students’ problems in writing. The result of this research explained that students’ English writing skill was definitely good at SMA Yaspen Tugu Ibu Depok. There were 88% of students with scores more than 50 and only 12 % with scores less than 50. In conclusion, the students’ writing skill at SMA Yaspen Tugu Ibu is considered to be high category in English writing skill.</p>
Since April 2020 The Ministry of Education stated the “Learning from Home” policy, that’s why The research was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic in the academic year of 2020-2019 starting in April 2021. Where learning is learning process have been held virtually with the support of internet and some communication and computer-based device. As a matter of fact, distance learning is not as simple as it should be. So the purpose of this research is to improve grammar skills through interactive learning media so that it is interesting and does not make students bored while following the distance learning. Therefore, the authors conducted research by knowing the use of learning media based on Kahoot as an effort to improve students' English grammar skills. The research method applied is the Classroom Action Research Method which goes through 2 cycles with the final results showing that the use of kahoot as an alternative learning media is very effective in growing up the enthusiasm of students to attend lectures so that it has an impact on improving students' English grammar skills with the finding of the average score of students with The number of 70 in the first cycle and 80 as the average value in the second cycle, these results significantly increased from the average score of 60 before the implementation of kahoot as learning media.
