El presente artículo tiene como objetivo central analizar el desarrollo del pensamiento de los estudiantes en modalidad virtual, teniendo en cuenta la gran cantidad de retos a los que se enfrentan, tanto en el uso de la tecnología, como en el desarrollo de estrategias para el trabajo colaborativo, la interacción directa con los contenidos y la gestión de información. Se realiza un análisis desde la teoría del constructivismo, considerando las características más comunes de los modelos de aprendizaje virtual. En la sociedad actual las competencias digitales juegan un papel muy importante para profesionales, estudiantes e incluso personas comunes. Por ese motivo los centros de educación (Escuelas, Colegios y Universidades) deben ser pioneras en la creación de este tipo de habilidades, las que deben estar concebidas dentro del proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje. En este sentido la preparación de los profesores es vital y desafortunadamente no siempre se cuenta con un personal capaz de asumir estos retos. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo diseñar una propuesta de introducción del Software “Chamilo” para el desarrollo de competencias digitales en los estudiantes y profesores de un Centro de Educación Básica ecuatoriano. Se muestran los resultados que evidencian una gran motivación por parte de estudiantes y profesores a insertarse y aprender para estar a tono con las exigencias tecnológicas de la sociedad. ABSTRACT In today's society, the digital competences play a very important role for professionals, students and even ordinary people. For this reason, the schools and universities must be pioneers in the creation of this type of skills, which must be considered in the teaching - learning process. In this sense the preparation of teachers is vital and unfortunately there is not always an available staff who are able to take these challenges. This research has the objective of designing the proposed introduction of the software "Chamilo" for the development of digital skills in students and teachers in an Ecuadorian center of Basic Education. Results show evidences of great motivation from students and teachers to be inserted and learnt the technological demands of the society.
