This study is basically about the values of university youth. Along with the rapid sociological changes, it is obvious that the youth is one of the fore-coming social layers which has been affected by the developments being lived with in all components of the society especially following the years of the 2000's. Therefore, the question "What direction do the affairs of the youth evolve?" is a big concern both among the individual sand the society groups; especially this question is an important issue that keep busy some leading social actors of the society such as politicians, educational institutions, religious organization sand the family members. At this point, there is an obvious need for critical thinking and scientific studies which will support basic perceptions and observations. This research study is inspired by the study named "The Values of University Youth" which was implemented by Topçuoğlu in 1999. After 20 years, in this study, which aims to understand today's university youth's attitude level towards values in relation with different variables, the assessment instruments were taken from the cited research study so as to ensure reliable comparison and reach correct conclusion. The data, which is derivedfrom 927 participants who are studying at public corprivate universities, is used to make deduction. The 7 factor groups that have been reached at the end of the analysis and the other variables were evaluated and compared to the findings that was gathered in former study. One of the most striking findings which helped to see the change safter 20 years is that byusing Schwart's Human Value Questionnaire(1992) the positive correlative relation between distinctive individüalist group sandspiritual groups is identified. In an other word, theyouthgiveimportancetothematerialvalueslikeimageorbeingambitious on one side while they have a religious tendency on the other side. However, this was just opposite 20 years ago with a negative and opposite correlative relation. Along with other findings, this research study reminds that replicated studies can be particularly effective in highlight in gthesociological changes and transformation while it was trying to understand the values of university youth.
Sociology as the science of objective truth of social facts emerged in the 19 th century. Its major concern, influenced by the positivist paradigm, was to be scientific through neutrality and impartiality. With its heavy emphasis on "objectivity," values are kept outside of sociological analysis for a long time because of their perceived relationship with personal aspect of reality and subjectivity. It is also possible that this perception built upon the myth of a "value free sociology" has in time diversified, both theoretically and methodologically. This was possible through the debates on objectivism and the "sociological adventure of sociology itself" which gradually advanced the idea that different branches of science can not be unified under one theory. One of the most prominent figures regarding the sociology of values, on the other hand, is Max Weber, who focused on the meaning of the action for the actor and emphasized the need to develop a sociology which attempts to understand the actor's understanding of his social actions. At the same time, Max Wever contends that sociological study should and can be "value-free." However, Weber is an important defender of a sociology that is "indepedent of values" centered around his ideas of "science as vocation" and practice of sociological research. The main reference point of criticisms towards Weber is his subjective evaluations in his own studies that appear rather evident. Therefore, this study is an attempt to read the concept of value through Weber's own sociology, with a focus on sociological possibility and possible contradictions of sociology of values, that has been neglected on the basis of objectivism and which has later gained legitimacy. In other words, this study investigates the sociological dimension of the concept of "value" and how it relates to Weber's position. With this purpose, a reading of capitalism based on Weber's "The Protestant Ethics," that represents a primary example of sociological investigation of "value" will be made.
Üniversite gençliğinin değerleri üzerine ülkemizde 1980'li yıllardan itibaren yapılan çalışmalar; dindarlığa ve manevi yaşama ilişkin ifadeler ile bireyci, hazcı ve maddi değerlere yönelik ifadelerin gruplandığı faktörler arasında negatif yönlü bir ilişkinin varlığından bahsetmektedir. Güncel çalışmalardan biri, üniversite gençliğinde maddi ve manevi değerler arasında daha öncekilerin aksine pozitif yönlü bir ilişki bulgulamıştır. Bu durum günümüzde gençliğin haz, hırs, imaj gibi uyarıcı değerlerle dindarlığı da içeren geleneksel değerleri benzer biçimde algıladığını işaret etmektedir.Bu farklı anlamak amacıyla bu çalışmada, gençliğin içsel ve dışsal dini yönelim düzeyleri ölçülerek değerler ve dindarlık arasındaki ilişki daha derinlemesine ele alınmıştır. Araştırma Selçuk Üniversitesinde 2019 yılında öğrenim gören 1194 kişi ile gerçekleştirilmiş ve değer alt boyutları ile dindarlık arasında yönelim farkı olmaksızın pozitif yönlü bir ilişikli tespit edilmiştir. Bu durum bize üniversite gençliğinin değerlerinde ciddi bir değişim olduğunu göstermektedir.
Bu çalışmada Türkiye'de kamusal alan konusundaki teorik ve pratik tartışmalar göz önünde bulundurularak öğrenci hareketleri farklı bir kamusal alan kurgusu ile analiz edilmeye çalışılmıştır. 60'lı ve 80'li yıllardaki öğrenci hareketleri merkeze alınarak kamusal alan tartışmaları çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiştir. Kavramla ilgili tarihsel arka plan ve temel teorik yaklaşımlar, geleneği bozmadan Locke, Mill, Rawls, Hayek gibi liberal düşünürlerin görüşleri ile birlikte Habermas, Arendt ve Sennett'in kuramsal çerçevesi ve Negt, Kluge'nin tartışmalara teorik katkısı üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Burada bahsedilen yıllardaki öğrenci hareketleri, daha eleştirel ve muhalif olarak formüle edilmiş olan "karşıt kamusal alan" yaklaşımı çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiş, tarihsellik göz önünde bulundurularak doksanlı yıllardaki öğrenci hareketlrine temel noktalar açısından değinilmiştir. Elde edilen bilgiler ve yapılmış çalışma bulguları 68 kuşağının sonraki öğrenci hareketlerine kıyasla toplumsal, siyasal ve kültürel açıdan çok daha farklı ve etkili dinamiklere sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Ancak söz konusu gençlik hareketlerini keskin kıyaslarla değerlendirmenin ötesinde, kendi etkileşim alanlarını anlamlandırmak, bu hareketlerin mevcut potansiyellerinin tarihsel açıdan günümüze uzanan bağlantılarını açığa çıkarması bakımından önem taşır.
