This study aims to identify patterns of community empowerment in the development of tourist villages in Bali. Second, to formulate alternative community empowerment model so that it can be applied in the development of tourism village in the future. The research was conducted with qualitative and quantitative approach with emphasis on descriptive analysis on various patterns of community empowerment. By using the concept of participation and stakeholders, then formulated appropriate community development model.This research uses several data retrieval techniques, such as structured interview, FGD, and literature study. Interviews were conducted in two ways, structured interviews and in-depth interviews. The study found three type of community empowerment in the development of tourist villages in Bali, among others: 1) internal type, 2) external type, and 3) mix type, which one is a combination of first and second type. The study also found that in some village tourism village development is done on cooperation between two villages, namely traditional villages and village offices.
The title of this study is Positive Politeness Strategies Used by Characters in an Animation Movie entitled “Finding Dory”. This study is aimed at finding out the types of positive politeness strategies used to extend and respond by the characters to express the utterance in movie script and also what factors that influence the usage of positive politeness strategies in the “Finding Dory” movie. The analysis of this study is concerned with the utterance of positive politeness strategies of the characters. The data of this study were collected through conducting direct observation of the movie script “Finding Dory” produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Andrew Stanton (2016). The collected data then were identified, classified, and analyzed qualitatively. The data derived from the script of the “Finding Dory” movie were collected and then, analyzed the polite expressions of characters used while doing conversation. After that, the selected data were analyzed based on the theory of politeness proposed by Brown and Levinson. Based on the result of the analysis, it was found that when extending and responding the utterance that contains positive politeness strategies, the characters used intensify interest to H (3), in-group identity markers (4), presuppose/raise/assert common ground (7), assert or presuppose S's knowledge of and concern for H's wants (9), offer, promise (10), be optimistic (11), including both S and H in the activity (12), give (or ask for) reasons (sub-strategy 13), assume or assert reciprocity (14). The most prominent factor that influences the characters to extend and respond the positive politeness strategies is the circumstances: sociological variables.
The title of this study is Women’s Language Features in Summer McKeen’s Vlogs. This study is mainly aimed to find out and describe women’s language features found in Summer McKeen’s vlogs and to find out and explain the functions of women’s language in Summer McKeen’s vlogs. This study used Summer McKeen’s video blog as the data source. The data of this study were collected by using library research method by collecting the words or phrases uttered in Summer McKeen’s vlogs. The words found in the utterance indicated women’s language features. The collected data were organized into classification of women’s language features and the function of women’s language descriptively analyzed based on the theories applied in this study. The theories applied in this study were mainly based on the theory of women language proposed by Lakoff (1975). The findings showed that the features of women’s language found in Summer McKeen’s vlogs were lexical hedges filler, tag question, rising intonation on declaratives, empty adjectives, precise color terms, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, super polite forms, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress. Moreover, the findings also found that the functions of women’s language were to show uncertainty, to intensify or emphasize an utterance, to get response, to express feeling and to soften an utterance.
This study is entitled Lexical Cohesion and Semantic Relation in the English texts. The aims of this study are identifying the types of lexical cohesion and analyzing the semantic relation found in the texts. The data were taken from five texts with different genres. It contains aspects of life and consists of twelve pages. This study was library research which applied the documentation method to collect the data. The data of this study were analyzed using the qualitative method. The theory applied in this study is cohesion in English that explains the types of cohesion into two; lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion and analyzing the semantic relation found in the text. The result of the analysis shows a lot of lexical cohesions found in the data such as reiteration. Reiteration consists of repetition, synonym and superordinate. Collocation can be explained by means of; Antonym, the same ordered series, and certain lexical sets. Semantic relation between lexical items in the text that makes the text cohesive was also found in this study.
