Abstrak The Maiwa Breeding Center program was a communiversity program from Hasanuddin University in the form of a Bali cattle nursery. The aim of this program was to preserve Bali cattle germplasm and improve the genetic quality of Bali cattle while increasing farmer income. The participation of farmers in implementing the MBC program was the key to the success of the program. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of farmer participation in the MBC program in Barru District. The number of respondents was 72 people who were randomly selected from 234 MBC partner farmers. Data was collected by enumerators who have been trained using questionnaires. The measured variable was the level of farmer participation during program planning, program implementation, program monitoring and evaluation and utilization of the results of the nursery program. Variables were measured using scores 1 - 4, namely from not participating, low participation, high participation and very high participation. Data analysis uses frequency distribution and continuum value table. The results showed that the participation of farmers in planning and monitoring and evaluation was in the low category. The participation of farmers in the implementation and utilization of results was in the high category. Overall, farmer participation in Bali cattle breeding activities was in the high category.
A technology dissemination program aimed at the community is carried out with a focus on the main problems experienced by partners and provides sustainable solutions based on the potential and resources owned by internal partners themselves. The implementation of this program aims to increase the capacity of farmers by providing information on the potential utilization of natural resources in their land. That resources especially agricultural and livestock waste that can be used as a medium for developing feed ingredients from insects i.e., BSF larvae (maggot). It will be used as an alternative feed for native chickens. Service activities are carried out through several stages including preparation, socialization, extension and demonstrations, as well as assistance so that farmers can independently carry out technology transfer packages themselves. During the activity, group members showed a high level of participation. Demonstration plots for rearing BSF larvae followed by feeding either processed or fresh larvae to native chickens. It was focused on one member of the group who was more ready to receive the technology package. From the evaluation results obtained that partners have additional information on how to cultivate maggot as an alternative source of protein feed, get to know local feed raw materials around and management of free-range chickens. Maggot cultivation results that are harvested at the age of 15 days are directly given to members’ chickens. At the end of the service activities, partners get a lot of experience and new skills, namely maggot cultivation.

Objective: This study aim was to determine the factors that influence the adoption of agricultural waste utilization as dairy feed among farmers in Enrekang Regency.

Methods: This research was conducted from July to September 2019 in Cendana and Anggeraja Districts, which are the centers for dairy cows in Enrekang district. The number of farmers in these two sub-districts were 261 people or 72% of the total population of dairy farmers in Enrekang district. The number of respondents were 77 who were selected using the simple random sampling method. Data collection was carried out by trained enumerators using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the F test to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable (adoption of agricultural waste utilization) and the t test for the partial test of each independent variable. The mathematical model used was a logistic regression model because the variable adoption of agricultural waste utilization was a dichotomous variable.

Results: The results showed that the most common types of agricultural waste used as feed in the dry season were sweet potato leaves and rejected sweet potatoes (50.6%), while in the rainy season it was sweet corn straw (30.6%). The method of utilizing agricultutral waste as feed was: directly given to dairy cattle (53%), withered first (25%), fermented (11%) and mixed with concentrate (11%). Factors that influence the adoption of agricultural waste as feed were the number of lactating dairy cattle (X1), contact with extension workers (X4) and the age of farmers (X5). Meanwhile, the cosmopolite variables (X2), formal education (X3), length of farming (X6) and number of families (X7) did not affect the adoption of agricultural was as feed.
Conclusions: To increase the adoption of agricultural waste as feed, the intensity of extension needs to be increased, especially for older breeders with 1 - 3 heads of lactating cattle.
