All scientific endeavours require researchers to develop an understanding of the available methodological tools to perform the needed studies. These tools can be applied depending on the field, purpose and context of the study. This article outlines and argues for ways to construct methodological framework appropriate for an in-depth interdisciplinary analysis of a literary text. The purpose of this study is to build the interdisciplinary methodological framework for literary text analysis using approaches of two humanities sciences – pedagogy and philology (linguistics and literature). The material for the research is a contemporary fairy tale Bunny Non-Hopper and His Brave Mommy by Oksana Drachkovska, Ukrainian writer and journalist. Relevance, innovation, importance and complexity of the author’s fairy tale theme, which appears both in the field of modern pedagogy and current philological interpretations justified our choice. Among the methods applied in the paper are literary studies interpretation that outlines a place of the fairy tale in the context of similar Ukrainian and foreign literature and reveals features of the its gender constructions; linguistic analysis based on communicative-pragmatic and conceptual approaches that focus on the text-discursive level along with pedagogical approaches that enable the representation of the text’s educational potential. The suggested framework consists of two levels – general scientific and specific scientific. On the general scientific level, it deploys systematic, synergetic, and paradigmatic approaches, whereas on the specific scientific level – linguistic approaches (communicative pragmatic and conceptual), literary studies approaches (intertextual and gender), and pedagogical approaches (integrated, inclusive, humanistic, empowerment), thus employing knowledge and specifics of each science. Besides a system-building function aimed to obtain comprehensive information about the object of the study, the proposed methodological framework for the interdisciplinary literary text analysis embraces an anthropocentric paradigm centred on children with special educational needs.
Poetry translation is one of the most difficult tasks in the literary translation. It is an artistic process in which translators create qualitatively novel artistic spaces. As a unique creative endeavor, it is becoming an important research topic in translation studies. A considerable attention of investigators has been focused on the means of preserving in translation poets’ aesthetics, specific features of their linguistic and ethno-cultural character which are jointly the products of particular phonetic, stylistic, lexical and syntactic literary tools used in translation. Therefore, an important part of the current analysis is to determine specific features of the literary translation of poetry on phonetic, morphological, lexical, syntactic, and textual levels. The goal of the current study is to examine distinctive features of the Ukrainian translations of Paul Celan’s work done by S. Zhadan, P. Rukhlo, and M. Fishbein. Namely, the study examines the specific literary tools used by the translators to convey the originals. It also aims at discovering unique stylistic features in the work of the translators. To reach the goal, we determined theoretical and methodological bases of the research domain, analyzed translations on the different linguistic levels, determined specific features of the individual style of the translators by using comparative translation, linguistic and contextual analyses. The study found that (a) the translators actively used transliteration, transcription, and adaptive transcoding; they used assonance and alliteration to preserve the gist and euphony of the original work; (b) there were changes in the grammatical number of nouns and uses of diminutive suffices to accurately transmit the original meanings; (c) lexis without available translation equivalents – the original author’s neologisms were translated using calqueing or the change of the lexical semantics; translators reproduced metaphors most of the time; they frequently used lexico-semantic methods of dispersion, addition, and substitution; constructions uncharacteristic for Ukrainian were adapted avoiding grammatical interference; to preserve melodic structure complex sentences were translated using sentences without conjunctions; (d) translators retained communicative functions present in the original work. There were a number of specific features in different translations known as individual stylistic features of translators: P. Rukhlo uses free (non-literal) translation, frequently utilizing a set of translation tools (addition, emphasizing connotation of depicted images, lexico-semantic switches); S. Zhadan often uses deletion in order not to overload the translated texts, dispersion, preserving the balance between the literal and free translation; M. Fishbein prefers literal translation, creating less euphonic texts, frequently uses calqueing or partial lexico-semantic substitution.
The article deals with the discursive symbolism of elements of the language system which determines the specificity of family discourse semiotics. The symbolism of the „family" sign is predetermined by the case-interpretation. Family language is a set of secondary symbols created by a group and associated with emotional rituals. Integration of family language sign in the area of their functioning – family discourse – is based on the mutual determinism. From the perspective of Charles Peirce’s theory of sign (classifying into three main trychotomies – the sign by itself, the meaning of the sign and its syntagmatic functioning in interaction with others), the research shows the whole complex of characteristics of semiotic entities in intra-familial nominations. The article proves that the "family" precedent is based on the experience within a collective cognitive space – common (recognizable, used and cited by other members of the group – family) memories that determine the identity of a man as a representative of the family recognizing its values, norms, ideas, priorities, tastes and traditions. Family images as archetype and culturally socialized symbols, are the "messengers" of ancient times, and, correlating with contemporary cultural context, are transformed under its influence. After the Second World War, 2019 definitely became one of the most significant strength tests for humanity that gave a boost to gradual but crucial changes in every person’s mental worldview models, which are particular deeply established constructs of reality. There is no sphere of activity that has not been affected by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Tourism became one of those areas most severely affected by the crisis, caused by pandemic conditions and quarantine measures. Consequently, they had to adjust to the new reality of life in circumstances of numerous human rights and freedom restrictions. This fact stipulates the topicality of the given comparative research. Based on the anthropocentric approach, the authors suggest the research methodology that lies in a complex approach to the discourse analysis as a platform for interrelations between the cognitive worldviews of addresser and addressee. Having identified the concepts-autochthons of the modern English-language tourism advertising discourse and determined their regular correlations, the cognitive map of the modern English-language tourism advertising discourse was designed. Having applied the comparative analysis of the cognitive maps of the traditional and modern English-language tourism advertising discourse, the authors determined the main suppositions of the English-speaking consumer of tourism services during pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Thus, the traditional view of the English-speaking consumer of tourism services is the perception of tourism as the phenomenon related to unhindered, comfortable traveling and family holidays with gastronomic delight, new acquaintances and positive emotions. However, during the pandemic period, for English-speaking tourism services, consumer tourism became necessary for a change of surroundings, like a sip of fresh air that is available only by following quarantine rules and only in those countries open for tourists. Safety and sanitizing become the most critical factors in choosing a tourist location.
