La ingeniería concurrente viene de la exploración de procesos industriales, y busca mejorar el rendimiento y la eficiencia en la fabricación de objetos. El diseño concurrente transforma este proceso, produciendo ideas generadoras y multidisciplinares que giran de forma simultánea en torno a un proyecto. Este artículo presenta la conceptualización en torno al diseño concurrente desde lo metodológico y procedimental, y busca brindar herramientas para optimizar el desarrollo y la articulación del conocimiento, asumiendo el papel de traductor de los procesos tomados de la ingeniería concurrente aplicándolos al proyecto arquitectónico. Para esto, el texto se dividióen tres partes. La primera recopila algunas definiciones concernientes a diseño y concurrencia. Posteriormente, estos conceptos son integrados en la construcción de una definición propia, que sirve de marco para la tercera parte donde se aplican, tomando como campo de exploración el Programa de Arquitectura de la Facultad de Diseño de la Universidad Católica de Colombia.

From the disciplinary encounter of architecture and urbanism, as well from the interventions in the environments of the popular habitat –especially those of the city outskirts– several discussions have been raised in order to define models, methodologies, strategies and concrete operations to carry out within the territory. However, a better look at the conditions of those territories suggests that the approaches are not the result of a specific formula and, therefore, this vision must be diversified and expanded. This book is the compendium of different reflections from the discipline of architecture and urbanism which advocate for an understanding of the complexity of the territory and its occupation processes, allowing considering alternatives for a concrete intervention of the city outskirts contexts. Through the understanding of participatory design theories, the need for interaction with professionals from other disciplines and other actors in the process is suggested as an alternative for the systematization of participatory design. Thus, generate the necessary tools for the consolidation of interventions and its efficient manifestation. This is how the systematic proposals for reading the territory are highlighted at the time the conceptual intervention intentions and the methodology are presented with the toolbox. In that way, they work as inputs to explore in a concrete way the participatory interdisciplinary design in city outskirts areas stand out.

The urban fringes of Latin American cities are the result of the accelerated growth that entails the formation of new settlements, that do not meet the basic needs of their inhabitants, and where the facilities have lost their meaning as a space to build the social and urban fabric. Starting from this problem, this text addresses the development of a place of worship that incorporates the concept of device as a piece of social articulation. The proposal starts from the analysis and diagnosis of the area and proposes two intervention scales under the “option generator model” (Carvajalino-Bayona, 1985) framework. The first consists of the improvement of the neighborhood in its main urban structures, while the second consists of the development of the architectural project that integrates worship activities with the dynamics of the neighborhood, from a multifunctional perspective. In this sense, urban relationships are strengthened, but at the same time, give continuity to the reflection raised from the design, where the participatory process is an opportunity to build dialogue and social fabric between the players involved, which in this case are part of communities in conditions of vulnerability.

El artículo indaga sobre la importancia del patrimonio cultural como elemento de cohesión en las comunidades asentadas en territorios de borde. Para esto se abordan tres temas: la definición del patrimonio, la resignificación como proceso de reconocimiento de las realidades de las comunidades con su territorio, y el espacio de borde como escenario de confluencia de diversas condiciones socio-territoriales. Los resultados evidencian cómo la resignificación es una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre las dinámicas que operan en los contextos de borde urbano, como el caso de Usme y su particularidad urbano-rural. Se concluye que es necesaria la construcción de herramientas capaces de intervenir y gestionar las dinámicas presentes en los territorios y las comunidades de borde.
