Introduction: Stroke is the main cause of long-term disability. It was reported that one third out of stroke survivors showed dementia in three months after stroke. Stroke patients need medication and palliative caring so that home-care is highly recommended. In Indonesia, home-care nursing for ischemic stroke has not yet been optimally applied in caring patient with stroke. The objective of thestudy was to examine the effect of home care holistic nursing on the change of anxiety and depression for the patient with stroke ischemic.Method: An experimental research with quasy experimental specifically nonrandomized pre-post test control group design was applied in this study. The study was conducted in Surabaya by selecting ischemic stroke patients after being hospitalized at "A-Seruni was, Medic IRNA, Dr. Soetomo hospital". A sample of size 40 patients was divided equally into two groups, control and treatment groups. The treatment and control groups respectively received holistic home care and home care. The depression and anxiety level were measured by using questionnaires technique. The data were analyzed by using Levene's test for homogeneity of variance, and t-test.Result: The result showed that there were significantly different between both groups for psychological response such as anxiety with p-value = 0.000, depression with p = 0.000.Discussion: It was concluded that holistic home care could improve the psychological responses by decreasing anxiety and depression level in ischemic stroke patients. It is recommended to make standard operational procedure of holistic home care that can be implemented by all health personnel who take care ischemic stroke patients.
Phytochemical Test and Antibacterial Activity of Pranawija (Euchresta horsfieldii (Lesch.) Benn.)AbstractEuchresta horsfieldii is a medicinal plant known in West Nusa Tenggara and Bali as pranajiwa. This study investigated phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity of roots, stems, leaves, and seeds of E. horsfieldii. The samples were analyzed for their antibacterial activity against Bacilus subtilis Inacc-B334, Staphylococccus aureus Inacc-B4, and Escherchia coli Inacc-B5. The phytochemistry result indicated that alkaloids was the most dominant constituent of E. horsfieldii as it was detected in all parts of the plant. GC-MS analysis of the stems, roots, and seeds showed mome inositol, sophoridane, and fatty acids such as palmitic acid and strearic acid as the main components. The roots had the most varied constituents with detection of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids. Further, antibacterial activity assay showed that the stems and roots had antibacterial activity against S. aureus Inacc-B4 and E. coli Inacc B-5, whereas the seeds had antibacterial activity against B. subtilis Inacc-B-334 and S. aureus InaccB4. The result of the present study supports the investigation on potentiality of E. horsfieldii as alternative source for antibacterial agents.
Setyayudi A, Krisnawati, Nandini R. 2019. Short Communication: Exploration of bidara laut (Strychnos lucida) parent trees in Gunung Tunak Ecotourism Park, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 274-278. Bidara laut (Strychnos lucida R. Brown) is one of the widely used medicinal plants. There is a bidara laut wood processing industry in West Nusa Tenggara that produces drinking cups called ‘health cups’ utilizing bidara laut. All raw materials used for the production of health cups are, however, obtained from bidara laut stands in forest areas, which may cause the extinction of this medicinal plant species if the highly intensive raw material harvesting in the forest is not supported with cultivation of this plant species. To preserve this plant species, the Institute for Research and Development of Non-Timber Forest Products Technology (NTFP-RDI) has carried out breeding activities by developing a collection garden of this species from the populations of Bali and West Nusa Tenggara (Lombok and Sumbawa Islands). The initial step carried out was the exploration of the parent trees followed by collection of generative materials (seeds) and nurseries. Exploration of bidara laut parent trees on Lombok Island was carried out in Gunung Tunak Ecotourism Park using a purposive sampling method, followed by collection of fruits to obtain seed propagating materials for establishment of seedling nurseries. Twenty-five parent trees were identified with average height of nine m, stem diameter of 24 cm and stem straightness scales of 1-3. The average seed produced was 413 seeds tree-1. Three parent trees were selected based on the highest seed germination rates, namely parent trees number 6, 14 and 20. This result provides useful information for the next bidara laut breeding activities.
In the last few years, people from various age group are looking for orthodontic treatment, among them are adult. Adult patients in comparison with children or adolescent, have different condition in regard to their teeth and periodontal tissue. These differences will affect treatment plan we are making for adult patients. Orthodontic treatment for adult patients requires the use of light force, bondable tube and ligature wire. These steps are taken as an effort to overcome chief complaint and to prevent periodontal breakdown.
