A b s t r a c t A r t i c l e I n f oTest of crude extracts of several plant species was conducted in a screen house to determine the best plant species and the most effective concentration of extract for increasing growth of upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivated in Ultisol. The test was done using Nested Design. First factor was sources of extracts: 1) leaves of cassava, 2) leaves of G. linearis, 3) C. asiatica, 4) stem bark of A. scholaris, and 5) fruit pericarp of mangosteen. Second factor was extract concentrations: 0 (control), 25, 50, and 100 mg/L. Applications of crude extract of mangosteen fruit pericarp at concentration 50 mg/L increased fresh weight of roots with the highest average weight 48.33 g, while the control was 13.33 g. However, plant height given extract of mangosteen (50 mg/L) was lower (74.90 cm) compared to the one in control (87.70 cm). On lower (25 mg/L) and higher (100 mg/L) concentrations of mangosteen pericarp extracts, fresh weight of roots tended to be lower than in control. Application of crude extract of C. asiatica at concentration 100 mg/L showed higher plant height with average 79.30 cm than in control 69.60 cm. Application of crude extract of mangosteen fruit pericarp showed the increasing of plant height from two to three weeks after planting, and crude extract of C. asiatica increased the plant height in third weeks after planting.
This study examines the different meaning in the visual analysis of Bli-Bli 12.12 and Lazada 12.12 advertisements. This study aims to determine the difference in meaning in visual analysis using the theory of reading images from Kress and Leeuwen (2006). Visual data analysis on these two advertisements is divided into three levels, namely representational, interactional, and compositional. The data is in the form of screenshots taken from the ad videos of bli-bli 12.12 and lazada 12.12. This research method uses descriptive qualitative research. The results showed some similarities and differences between the two advertisements in the theory of Reading images by Kress and Leeuwen (2006). The similarities in the visual data of the two advertisements can be seen in the dominance of advertisements by primary announcements and the difference in the different amounts of data in each part of the analysis point.
Melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) is a tropical plant that has an abundant distribution and it widely used in Indonesia. Study on the utilization of melinjo is began to developed in the realm of utilization as a source of medicinal compounds, especially the seeds of melinjo which so far have only been used as food. The seeds of melinjo contain secondary metabolites that are active including phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins. These compounds are anatomically produced by the secretory tissue of melinjo seeds. The distribution of the secretory tissue and the compounds produced is thought to be influenced by the maturity phase of the melinjo seeds. The maturity phase of melinjo seeds is marked by the color of the seed coat starting from the most mature, namely red, yellow, and green. In this study, histochemical tests were carried out to determine the distribution of secretory tissue in melinjo seeds and the compounds produced. In addition, antioxidant activity tests were also carried out using the DPPH method. Phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins are scattered in each layer of melinjo seeds, namely sarcotesta, sclerotesta, endotesta and endosperm at different levels in each stage of maturity. The highest antioxidant activity was in the extract of yellow melinjo seeds with an IC50 value of 24.37 g/mL. Antioxidant activity melinjo seeds are related to the composition of compounds contained in melinjo seeds.
