Pro-environmental producer behavior is increasingly important to realize an environmentally friendly business. The research aimed to identify the knowledge, attitudes, religiosity, and behavior of the food small and medium enterprises (SME) producers towards the environment; and to analyze the influence on the SMEs’ performance. The research object was SMEs of “Tempe chips” in Malang City, East Java Province, Indonesia. The results show that the majority of producers already have knowledge of the green raw materials and production process, but only a few of them know about green packaging. The producers’ attitude supported the environmentally friendly production process, although it was still at a lower level than religiosity. The producers’ behavior is still less pro-environment in terms of raw materials usage, production process, and packaging. They have implemented water and energy saving, but have not been able to avoid plastic packaging. The SEM results showed that the producer’s attitude influences their behavior toward environment, meanwhile, religiosity negatively moderates the attitude in affecting producer behavior. The producer’s behavior positively influenced the SME’s performance. The recommendation given is to socialize the use of environmentally friendly packaging to sell at a premium price targeted to the middle to upper consumer segments.
B eing the staple food as in various Asian countries (Amrullah, 2018), rice is an essential commodity in Indonesia. While being the third major rice producer globally (Bandumula, 2018), its consumption rate has been ahead of its national yield one (Noviar, 2018). However, propagating rice production is a challenge. The extent of rice fields throughout nation has been constantly declining despite being recognized as an agrarian country (Daris et al., 2018;Harjanti and Hara, 2020). The decreasing number of rice farmers also occurs since younger generations have been more interested in other professions (Anandita and Patria, 2017). The aforementioned cases lead to dwindling rice quantity produced nationwide (Octania, 2021), compelling the government to import a large portion of it to cater the demand (Ariska and Qurniawan, Abstract | The government has been launching agricultural programs by producing rice of certain superior cultivars to achieve rice self-sufficiency and sustainability and bundling them with beneficial policies. However, quite a large number of rice farmers continue to grow local rice variants. This study aims to identify, analyze, and describe farmers' attitude and behavior. A survey was employed for quantitative data gathering and an interview was for the qualitative ones. A total of 52 respondents were of local rice farmers in Sidodadi and Banturejo villages of Ngantang district, Malang Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The result of correlation test showed good cognitive, affective, and conative aspects of the farmers despite low achievement rates in all government programs. Social stratification significantly affected the farmers' response on the programs. The farmers' cognitive, affective, and educational aspects are also significantly influential in their response. Further motives are of internal factors (social) and external ones (official, organizational, private, cultural, and natural).
This paper as a theoretical perspective based on a literature study addresses trade sustainability impact assessments. They are defined and designed to enhance free trade agreements and conducted either by regional organizations or individual states. The paper includes sections on the historical background of the different generations of the impact assessments (sustainability impact assessment, human rights impact assessment) used in the context of international trade, its impact on human rights and relation to environmental refugees, as well as, the influence of the European Union and Switzerland as the international players in shaping these assessments. The conclusion reached in this paper is that although diverse assessment tools are available, there is a need to encourage their greater adoption and use, based upon a holistic approach. The paper highlights the need for the use of theoretical models of trade sustainability impact assessment
This research aims at analysing maritime spatial planning (MSP) development in the countries of the Baltic Sea Region through the lens of the concept of a multi-use approach to maritime space. Special focus is on the offshore wind energy and coastal and offshore tourism sectors. The goal is to contribute to the progress of a sustainable blue economy. The research methods used include analysis (using such techniques as monographic, dogmatically comparable, and special analytical) and synthesis through examination of marine plans, regional and national policy documents, and MSP-related legislation in the European Union Member States of the Baltic Sea Region. The results of the research confirm that in a contemporary understanding a holistic multi-use approach to maritime space forms an integral part of MSP for resource and space sharing between two or more activities with the aim of benefiting all users. Conceptually, it evidences the emergence of the multi-use principle in the MSP process. However, while offshore wind development is prominently prioritised in the currently adopted marine plans, accentuation of applying the multi-use principle is rather cautious. In this aspect, knowledge transfer from countries with longer-established experience in offshore wind development and its combination with other activities, such as tourism, is crucial. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that large-scale offshore renewable energy and the concept of multi-use maritime space will also mark the long-term future development of MSP in line with global and European Union targets for achieving carbon neutrality and zero pollution, promoting the circular economy, and restoring biodiversity by 2050.
